Do you ever leave dirty dishes, glasses, mugs,

pots, silverware, etc. in the sink?

Here’s how GON Readers responded… 35% Sometimes, but only when soaking is required to remove heavy grease, etc. 22% Other 13% No, my sink is always empty. 13% Not IN the sink, but next to the sink. (Smile.) 9% Yes, it is piled full all the time. 8% I don't, but family members do. Ugh! Other GON Reader Comments: Only if the dishwasher is running and I can't get them in. Yes, in the evening. Usually a small amount, waiting for the next wash. This won't happen when the dishwasher is installed! Sometimes, when the dishwasher has been run and dishes in it are air drying. Occasionally, but try to do them after dinner daily. If I haven't unloaded the dishwasher and I am exhausted at night, or if they need soaking. I live alone and put dishes in the sink until I have enough to run a load in the dishwasher. Yes, a few cups or bowls are in the sink most of the time. Not piled full; washed at that point! During the day sometimes, but never overnight! LOL! Once or twice during the week, when I am just too tired. I don't leave a sink full of dishes, but I don't feel the need to wash five or less items unless company is coming. Not overnight, but sometimes a few items until I get to to the next mealtime on a very busy day. We are retired so dishes pile up throughout the day. I rinse and load to the dishwasher as we finish meals, but I do hand wash items once a day. They are neatly stacked next to the sink, but I don’t want to be washing dishes all day. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Occasionally, if there's only a couple or if they need to soak. We try to do them every evening no matter what, so we come down to an empty sink and clean counter in the morning. Sometimes during the day, but never leave them over night. The sink is emptied every night. I do have things in the sink or on the counter because I don't have a dishwasher and only do dishes once a day. Only if I have very few items dirty. I leave it next to the sink. Only when something needs soaking, I leave it in the sink. But I do the washing up every day. Starts at breakfast…then piles up until they go into the dishwasher after supper! Recently started being more intentional about doing dishes more timely. Used to have a full sink most of the time. Now most dishes are put into the dishwasher right away. Except for pots and pans and items that cannot go into the dishwasher. Now working on being more timely with clearing the sink/counter of those items. Mostly empty, but there are times when they are left in the sink because the dishwasher is being used...or no one wants to put the clean dishes away. Usually only wash dishes every 1 or 2 days. We are a retired couple; I let dishes soak in the sink until washed.  I only have 36" of counter space! Subtract the dish drainer size, and I have even less. Yes, but just a few dishes until I get them done later on that day, so not "piled full all the time" and not "always empty", somewhere in between. Have no sink so they sit in a wash bin in the shower for two days. Then I wash them. Sometimes during the day, they sit next to the sink, especially things I don't put in the dishwasher and will hand wash when I have more items. I clean up all the dishes every night (almost). Yes, but only after dinner--only the non-dishwasher items--then clean the kitchen before breakfast. Yes, in our family of two, we wash dishes by hand once a day. It takes a long time running the water for it to get hot so I tend to leave things until there are enough to be “worth” all that water. It’s only often- used things that don’t go in the dishwasher anyway. Sometimes I do, when it’s just a few. Don’t want to wet my hands and wait for few more to join the pile before I wash them. Occasionally when in a hurry. My husband and I always soak them and put them in the dishwasher as soon as we get home. Only if the dishwasher hadn't been emptied yet! They go directly in the dishwasher unless I need to wash them by hand. Sometimes I do, but I always empty the sink at night when I straighten the house. It makes a big difference the next day. I soak dishes during dinner. Then depending on how involved I am with a TV show, I'll either go back and finish up then, or let it be till morning. I never leave anything during the day, just after dinner. Sometimes I leave the hand wash items in the sink until a more convenient time. Usually it's only a few items or items that need soaking. I don’t like to wash dishes after cooking and eating, but everything except pans and certain plastics that don’t go into dishwasher immediately get washed first thing in the morning. Then my countertop is clean for the day. Back to Web Poll Results Index
