In a GON Reader Poll, we asked, “Which of these do you own in excess?” Here’s how our readers responded…along with a bunch of personal comments: 21% Clothing 20% Books 12% Shoes 11% Purses/Handbags/Totes   9% Storage Containers   9% Other   8% Decor   6% Makeup / Skincare Products   4% Toys/Games Here are a whole bunch of personal reader comments in response to this poll! Dead relative possessions! Yarn, lots and lots of yarn! Photographs Craft supplies (paper crafting, scrapbooking, cross stitch, wool, quilting) Towels Blankets Kitchen Equipment Magazines Furniture Hair care products, CDs, free Kindle books, and physical blank journals Paper/card crafting supplies in 2 different countries! Trying to consolidate and use up, but then I travel and see more I “need” to have. I do have an extensive “snail mail” correspondence list so I do use my supplies. I just have more than I’ll use in this lifetime! Used to own too many shoes…97 pairs of heels, 6 pairs of boots, 3 tennis shoes, 3 flip flops. I am now at 1 pair of boots, 1 pair of hiking boots, 2 tennis shoes, 2 flip flops and 3 pair of heels. More manageable, more practical, more sensible, but I miss having choices! You forgot “all of the above” as a choice or maybe that was left out on purpose. I have excess of all the items listed but not for home decor…except for Christmas decorations, definitely too many of those. Please help! Family photos, linens, and heirlooms Binders full of cut-out recipes that I seldom, if ever, use Cardboard boxes Mason jars Plants, sheets, towels, cushions, scarves Casserole/baking dishes, serving bowls, and Tupperware Dishes Food in the freezer Stationery and pens! Towels and washcloths, mending/ tailoring, holiday decorations, sewing tools and fabric. Storage containers full of yarn. Plus cookbooks and magazines I haven't read yet.! DVD's, even though you can stream pretty much everything these days, I still can't seem to part with them. I have always edited "stuff" and given to charity, family, etc. Everything kitchen related Magazines and papers Pens, markers, notebooks, etc. Amazon does not help my cause! I keep decluttering regularly, but there's always a time when things are in excess. Of course, next time some of them will go out. Both of my parents recently passed so I have a lot of their things from emptying their house that I need to sort through. Our house has books everywhere! We are a family of readers. Still have old toys for my adult "kids." Things I inherited, paper items, boxes for things I want to sell Nothing is in excess at this point. We downsized when we moved 200 miles away, more than 8 years ago; so we haven't had time for anything to accumulate in excess YET (there may come a time!). Sentimental "knick knacks" Paper and files Coffee mugs Most of the above - need to do some serious purging! Reusable shopping bags I have a lot of books. I would never say I have too many of them.
