What is the Best Way to Start Your Day?

In a GON Reader Poll, we asked, “What is the best way to start your day?” Here’s how our readers responded…along with a bunch of personal comments: 36% Drink hot cup of coffee 31% Other 11% Read something inspirational 9% Take an invigorating shower 7% Eat a delicious breakfast 6% Read the newspaper Do essential exercises - stretching, flexing Check email and read newsletters on line Drink a hot cup of tea Drink a refreshing glass of just brewed iced tea Meditate Pray (Bible or Devotional) Say a prayer thanking God for waking me up another morning while I have my cup of coffee Brush and clean my teeth. Then have coffee Reading (relaxing) while drinking my coffee out on the patio Coffee, toast with butter and jelly, newspaper—all important Blueberry smoothie Sip tea and read your GON ezine! Feed and say hello to my cat Turn on my computer. Check emails and bank accounts. Read GON and write down the "daily" "To Do" Doing qigong or meditating Go for a walk—outdoors in good weather or in the treadmill in weather that is too cold or messy Enjoy a cup of hot tea. I get up early to some peaceful time in the morning. Its not to update my to-do for the day or anything, just me time and watching out of the window with my tea I go to daily Mass Make my bed Take an invigorating shower A good stretch, cup of coffee and play my bass for an hour! I enjoy a hot cup of tea and watch the wildlife in my backyard as the sun comes up Watching my Christian Channel Ask Christ for help this day and for me to help others today A brisk walk in nature I feed and water my cats and then play several games of Solitaire on my phone. Then coffee! Play with my dog Walk the houndies very early in the morning and then come home to coffee and quiet reflection, reading, and prayer time I read GON every morning…it helps me start my day!! Read a chapter in a good book I get up every morning and walk on the treadmill Not waking up to an alarm Each morning before I eat breakfast, I make my bed, put away any dishes I left out to dry overnight, and start a load of laundry. Somehow this routine starts the day off with enough activity, that I'm able to keep it going for awhile and mornings are my most productive Make the bed. Then I have a flat place to lay out my clothes for the day. After that coffee, breakfast, and shower I make my bed, have a cup of coffee and get dressed (including makeup). I am retired and this sets me up for a productive day Eat breakfast while reading. But this year I'm trying to read something more inspirational or journal in the morning. I read my bible devotions every morning to start my day! I feel like something is missing if I don't spend that time reading them Read a no-sense book (romance) for about 15-30 minutes. If I don't pay attention while waking up, it doesn't affect my thoughts for the day Hydrate with at least 8 onces of water I like to challenge my mind so alongside my coffee I enjoy doing my daily Wordle! I'm hooked! Yoga Aqua Fit I slightly tidy up the house, eat my breakfast and go walk. The only way I get my exercise in is if I do it first thing Morning prayer. It's a "must" to get fortified and centered before reading the online forums and news Open the curtains to let the light in Quickly check emails and the weather on my iPhone and then start my morning routine (i.e. make the bed, get ready for the gym or any activity for that day which varies.) Read in bed: email, Facebook, check weather, local news, etc. Eat a small breakfast and head to my exercise class A hot coffee and walk the dog, not necessarily in that order First thing I do before having my coffee and reading your newsletter is doing 20-30 minutes of yoga! This has become a ritual for me. I feel so much better when I am done Have breakfast with my cat Bed stretches, make my bed, drink a glass of water, brush my teeth/face, feed the dog and cat, take the dog for a 20-25 minute walk Solitaire I begin the day by drinking a tall glass of cold water. It starts the metabolism going and energizes the body We read the newspaper first thing in the morning. Followed by a pot of coffee.
