GON Organizing Tech
Organizing Tech 5 Digital Chores You Should Be Doing Daily Just like you empty the sink and load the dishwasher each day, there are daily chores you should do to keep your computer clutter-free and working efficiently. Here are 5: Delete unnecessary email: When you check for email, immediately delete anything you don’t need. Don’t do it “later,” because “later” equals email clutter. Handle it right away. Unsubscribe: Your incoming email will multiply rapidly if you don’t make unsubscribing a regular habit.  Instead of just deleting your email, if you don’t intend to read the newsletter, advertisement, etc., scroll down to the bottom and click on the unsubscribe link. Back-up: Be sure you have an automatic back-up program installed on your computer (I use Mozy.) This way, all of your files will be backed up without any additional work on your part…and you’ll be able to retrieve your files when your computer crashes…which, by the way, all computers do eventually.  Dump the cookies: Dump that cookie jar. When you visit websites, they often attach a bit of information-gathering software to your computer called a cookie. Each cookie you get makes your computer run slower and slower. Delete cookies often. A simple search online, indicating the web browser you’re using in the search (Google, Internet Explorer, etc.) will help you do this. Delete outdated files: Every single day, I delete 10 files from my computer that I no longer need (old Word files, spreadsheets, duplicate photos, graphics, etc.). This ensures my computer isn’t storing any unnecessary clutter.
