Organizing Checklist January 2017 Open your life book to a fresh page! It’s the first month of 2017. Let’s make this your most organized year yet. Check out our NEW January 2017 Organizing Checklist! Join our weekly newsletter to be notified when the newest checklist is available. For a PRINTABLE VERSION, click here ____ Jan 1 New Year’s Day means the start of a new year and a new beginning. Grab a new calendar and set some goals for yourself, your family, and your life. You can do this alone or with your family. Don’t forget to write any appointments, birthdays, and possible vacations on the calendar. Remember to schedule in some “Me Time” too. ____ Jan 2 Evaluate, organize, and redo your bill paying area. Take an inventory of all your supplies and restock if necessary. File that pile of papers, shredding those no longer needed, and enjoy having a clean area to take care of your finances. ____ Jan 3 Clean the inside windows in all the rooms. Vacuum out the window tracks and use an old toothbrush to loosen any stubborn dirt. ____ Jan 4 Date night! Plan a surprise evening to share with your spouse, a friend, or one of your children. Dress up even if it is just dinner at home. Spend the time getting to know the person, and enjoying their company. ____ Jan 5 Today is a good day to create some meal plans. Grab those recipes that you’ve been wanting to try, along with some family favorites, and your calendar. Don’t forget to plan for leftover nights and the occasional night out meals.  ____ Jan 6 Clean all your light fixtures. Remove the bulbs and wash the fixtures in hot soapy water. Replace them once completely dry. Replace any burnt out bulbs. Enjoy the bright light. .____ Jan 7 Put away the tree and Christmas decorations. While you are repacking the decorations, set aside any that you no longer love to either donate, or to give to families who are starting their own households. ____ Jan 8 Take the time to start a gratitude journal. Write down at least three things that you are grateful for in your life. They don’t have to be big items. ____ Jan 9 Do something good today. Visit and help someone at an assisted living center or at the hospital. There are always people who are lonely and who would enjoy a visit. ____ Jan 10 Flip the mattresses. Rotate and flip all the mattresses in your house. This will help your mattresses last longer. Sprinkle a mixture of baking powder and essential oil of your choice on them, and then vacuum them. Enjoy your fresh mattresses. ____ Jan 11 To eliminate the hard water deposits, fill a plastic baggie with vinegar, place the baggie over your shower head, and tie it on so it soaks. After a few hours, wipe clean. ____ Jan 12 Choose a room and wash the walls, baseboards, and doors. This will help brighten the room and chase away those dreary winter days. ____ Jan 13 It’s Friday the thirteenth. Spend time watching some old Vincent Price movies. ____ Jan 14 Today is Dress up your Pet Day. Have some fun with friends and family, dressing up your pets, taking photos, and having a contest of the best dressed pet. ____ Jan 15 Gather the family and write letters to grandparents or other family membrs who live far away. ____ Jan 16 Martin Luther King Day. Spend some time being kind to others, and learning more about him and his dream. ____ Jan 17 Clean the inside of your kitchen cabinets. Wipe down the shelves, replace the liners, and reorganize the contents. Donate items that are no longer used. ____ Jan 18 Take yourself and the family to the library. Find some great chapter books to read together. The Narnia series is a terrific family read. ____ Jan 19 Since today is National Popcorn Day, pop up a bowl full of this fun treat and spend time watching your favorite movies. Take some popcorn to work and share. ____ Jan 20 Change your smoke detector batteries and the furnace filter. Remember the batteries in the Carbon Monoxide sensor also. ____ Jan 21 Take some time to relax and pamper yourself. Go for a walk, get a massage, or sign up to learn a new skill. You will be a better spouse, parent, or friend by taking care of yourself. ____ Jan 22 It’s a  good day to sort and identify your photos taken during the holidays. Back them up and choose some to get printed for your albums. ____ Jan 23 Take time to do maintenance on your computer. Run a virus scan, defrag the hard drive, and delete any programs you no longer use or need. This will help your computer run better and faster. ____ Jan 24 Today is Compliment Day, so be sure and compliment your family, friends, co-workers, and boss. Being complimentary will brighten up the day for them…and for you . ____ Jan 25 Organize the bathroom. Remove empty bottles, refill the liquid soap dispensers, and restock the toilet tissue and towels. Sort and organize the bathroom drawers, discarding items no longer in use. ____ Jan 26 Scrub your showers. Spray down the shower with a cleanser, letting it sit for awhile. Then take a scrubbing brush and give the tile a thorough cleaning. Use an old toothbrush on the crevices and around the faucets. Dry the shower walls, wipe them with lemon oil to prevent hard water, and shine the faucets and knobs with glass cleaner. ____ Jan 27 Pull out the board games, turn off all electronic equipment, and have a fun family time. ____ Jan 28 Plan and cook some freezer meals to pop into the oven or crock pot for busy nights. ____ Jan 29 Today is National Puzzle Day, and a great day to pull out some jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, or any other type of puzzles you and your family enjoy. ____ Jan 30 Grab the family or friends and make a snowman or have a snowball fight. If you live in a warmer climate, grab some cotton balls for snowless “snow time.” ____ Jan 31 Start planning for Valentine’s Day. It is only two weeks away.
