Monthly Organizing Checklist February 2018 It’s the second month of 2018…the perfect time to recharge! Let’s make this your most organized month yet. For a PRINTABLE VERSION, click here ____ Feb 1 To welcome in a new month filled with potential, print out this list and place it on your command center wall or in your daily planner. While you are there, stock up your command station with needed supplies like pens, post-its and paper clips. ____ Feb 2 Sunday is the Super Bowl.  Whether you are hosting a party, hanging out with your family, or going to a friend or family member’s party, you’ll want to be sure to have your menu down today.  Look up recipes you’ve used in the past or find new, fun dishes you can make.  If you can’t decide, let Punxsutawney Phil help you. Pick two favorites and name one “shadow” and the other “no shadow.” Follow the ground hog and let him decide for you. Also, be sure you have all the ingredients for the dishes. If you don’t, take a trip to the store. ____ Feb 3 Do light house cleaning today, like dusting and running the vacuum. ____ Feb 4 Relax and enjoy the Super Bowl. Football not your thing? Work on a favorite hobby instead. ____ Feb 5 Empty your kitchen sink of any lingering dishes and wipe down counter-tops, cabinet doors, and appliances.  ____ Feb 6 Organize boots and shoes in a weather-proof tray. .____ Feb 7 In honor of National Singing Day, use today to clean your showers (and the rest of the bathroom). Be sure to sing while you work ____ Feb 8 Go through your calendar and your kid’s school schedules.  Be sure everything is up-to-date and coordinated. ____ Feb 9 Did you know that the Winter Olympics start today? Join in the fun and clean out your freezer, a little bit at a time, in between events. ____ Feb 10 Collect all winter hats, gloves and scarves. Give them a quick wash and be sure you have a good storage spot that is convenient for everyone who is coming and going in the cold weather. ____ Feb 11 If you have indoor plants, be sure they have had winter fertilizer. ____ Feb 12 Check the batteries in your fire detectors and inspect fire extinguishers. If you need batteries or updated devices, be sure to add them to your next shopping list to update, recharge, and/or replace. ____ Feb 13 In celebration of Mardi Gras, host a purging parade. Before the parade begins, have your kids decorate “trash” and “donate” boxes with markers and stickers. Dress up, play some fun music, march, and do some purging!  Walk through the house picking up stragglers on the floor and on counters! ____ Feb 14 Happy Valentine’s Day! Write 14 things that you love about your life and keep them in a journal or in a vanity drawer to look at when life doesn’t feel so lovely. ____ Feb 15 You may not have gotten too many love letters in the mail, but you’ve probably been stacking up some junk mail and bills. Be sure to recycle and/or file your mail pile. ____ Feb 16 Replace light bulbs that may have gone out.  If you don’t have extra light bulbs in the house, take an inventory and add them to your shopping list. (Do a check on your car’s lights too.) ____ Feb 17 Continue collected needed documents for tax- time. Add them to your tax folder and be sure to label for easy finding. ____ Feb 18 Go through your coupon folder and discard any expired and unwanted coupons. ____ Feb 19 Winter break… take a step outside. Shovel or sweep off all walk ways, porches, decks, and steps. No snow outside? Do some sweeping. ____ Feb 20 Germ check! Wash and dry bedroom pillows. ____ Feb 21 Look at your hallway coat closet. If there are coats that haven’t been worn all winter, consider donating them. Do the same with boots, scarves, hats, etc. ____ Feb 22 Can it! Look through your pantry and throw out anything that has expired (or that has been opened, but is now stale).  If you have time, look through your fridge and do the same. ____ Feb 23 If the weather allows, clean out your car today. ____ Feb 24 Have a freezer day. Cook ahead some meals to bring you into the month of March… that’s next week already! ____ Feb 25 You may have added several things to your shopping lists over this month, like command center supplies, batteries for smoke detectors, filing supplies, indoor house plant food, light bulbs, air fresheners, etc. Did you remember to get those things?  Review this month’s list and be sure you checked all those things off your TO DO list today. ____ Feb 26 Half the school year is gone…and probably so has the newness of backpacks, pencil boxes, and lunch boxes. Clean them out, wash them and/or replace. ____ Feb 27 Purge your magazine pile. Read, donate, recycle, or give to your school’s art teacher. ____ Feb 28 Looking back on this month, what have you wished that you would have accomplished, but didn’t? Make a list and keep it in your planner or journal with your resolutions. Look at it often and update.
