Above and Beyond Challenges
Each challenge is designed to help you go “above and beyond” what you’d
normally do in your daily life.
__
“Go above and beyond” with your daily wardrobe: After you get
dressed for the day ahead, add a special accessory that goes “above
and beyond” what you usually wear. Maybe it’s a silk scarf you adore.
Perhaps it’s a necklace with special meaning. It may be a splash of a
favorite perfume. Wear something every day that makes you feel good
about yourself…and then add one extra thing that makes you
especially happy. Our entire outlook on our day can change when we
feel better about ourselves.
__
“Go above and beyond” with your tasks. For at least one of your
many tasks in your day, go a bit beyond what you’d normally do. Like if
you normally dust the book shelf, actually remove the books from one
shelf and do a more thorough dusting job. If you normally wipe the
kitchen table after breakfast, add a vase of fresh flowers from the
backyard when you’re done. If you normally delete 10 email messages
a day, try deleting 20. You get the idea.
__
“Go above and beyond” with someone you know: An “I like your
shirt” compliment is nice. An “I love that shirt on you. It brings out your
green eyes and is so flattering with your complexion” compliment is
even better. Go big with your compliments and genuinely mean it.
__
“Go above and beyond” with a gift: Most of us like to give gifts.
They’re fun for the other person to receive and fun for us to give. The
other day, someone gave me homemade jam. But, it was in a pretty jar
(that I get to keep), tied with a lovely ribbon and a handmade
personalized tag made just for me. It made me feel really special. Your
gifts don’t have to be more expensive (or cost anything at all), but the
way they’re presented can make an extra good impression.
__
“Go above and beyond” in taking care of yourself: We all perform
daily self-care (showers, brushing teeth, shampooing hair, etc.). But
this month, try to do something a bit more special in your self-care
routine. Perhaps do a hot oil treatment for your hair, take an extra-long
bubble bath, or give yourself the luxury of an uninterrupted hour of
reading time.
