Dealing with chaos at home is never a pleasant experience, especially
when time is not on your side. Here’s a practical guide to help you regain
control:
1.
Clutter Grab Technique: Start with a quick and effective "clutter
grab." Grab an empty laundry basket and begin in the living room.
Pick up items that don't belong there, toss them in the basket, and
move to the next room. Repeat this process throughout your home. If
you're short on time, leave the filled laundry basket for later…but
make sure to circle back to put things away.
2.
Common Clutter Culprits: Address the most common clutter
culprits:
o
Mail: Sort through your mail. Immediately recycle what you don’t
need. Place important mail where it belongs.
o
Laundry Pile: Gather dirty clothes and towels from bathrooms
and bedrooms and bring to the laundry room. Start a load of
wash.
o
Dirty Dishes: Load the dishwasher, turn it on, and rinse out the
sink.
o
Random shoes: Put them in the coat closet, bedroom closet, or
utility room…wherever is applicable for your family. They should
be on a shoe rack; not in a pile.
3.
Trash Bag Roundup: Go from room to room collecting trash.
Dispose of it in the outside trash can.
4.
Focus on Visible Areas: While you might have clutter tucked away
in drawers and closets, focus on the visible surfaces for now. Tidy up
cluttered surfaces.
By following these starter steps, you can begin turning your chaotic living
space into a more welcoming environment, even when time is of the
essence.
