Read the book or watch the movie…which is more worth your time? There are many books made into movies, so which do you choose? Both of these options can be more worth your time depending on your circumstances. For instance, reading a book allows your mind to be imaginative, reading a book is very portable, and most books are more detailed than their movie counterparts and therefore allow you to get more of the story and more involved with the characters. On the other hand, reading a book is not very social (unless you’re involved in a book chat)…watching a movie is something you can do with others. Plus, sometimes you just want to kick back and enjoy something that’s very visually exciting…something that movies do much better than books.Of course, the biggest drawback of reading a book is the time is takes you to do so. As an example, it would probably take you six hours, spread among many days, to read Wuthering Heights when you could watch the movie in just over two hours. Sometimes, you have to get the gist of something quick…a movie would obviously trump a book in this situation.Personally, I love reading. I generally prefer reading the book…and if I like it, I’ll often watch the movie based on the book. I generally like the book better than the movie, but in some cases, like The Martian, I thought they were both equally amazing. You may be saying, if you’re doing BOTH, that’s going to take even more time. But I say, 1) anyone who works hard deserves leisure time, 2) doing both gives me two different perspectives, and 3) doing both allows me personal time and social time. That all being said, both of these mediums can be the biggest waste of your time if you didn’t enjoy them, and the greatest use of your time if you did! I will say this, if I start watching a movie or reading a book, and I’m not happy with it about a quarter of the way through, I do give myself permission to stop and move on to something else…without guilt!
