When getting ready to travel, there are always leftovers that can't be frozen, or scraps from fixing a meal, etc. and trash day may be far away. To keep those foods that will spoil from smelling up our kitchen or garage while we are gone, I put them all in a freezer baggie, write 'GARBAGE' on the outside, and throw it in the freezer. After we've returned from vacation, when garbage day rolls around, we just throw the whole baggie away.
