How long have you been in business?

It has been 3 and a half years now!

2. Is this your primary business, or a part-time business?

This is my primary business.

3. Are you a member of NAPO? (Please indicate if you're an officer.)

Not at this time however I am a member of Professional Organizers in Canada (POC).

4. Why did you become a professional organizer?

I am passionate about helping people clear out the clutter in their life. This makes room for the possibilities to come.

5. What type of organizing do you specialize in (home, office, etc.)?

I specialize in working with entrepreneurs.

6. Do you sell products, services, or seminars? Please describe.

I work on a consulting basis, and I also do seminars and guest speaking.

7. Have you written a book(s)? If so, what is the title(s)?

I am working on the first edit of my book.

8. Do you publish a newsletter? If so, is it a print newsletter, or an e-zine? Is it free, or is there a charge?

Yes, I publish a free monthly e-zine. It's available on my web site.

9. Do you have a web site? If so, what is the address?

Yes, it's www.organizationplus.ca

10. Is travel a big part of your business?

I do some traveling every month.

11. Who is your primary target audience?

Entrepreneurs and small business owners.

12. Describe your typical workday.

I meet with a client in the morning. In the afternoon I do business development.

13. Every person interested in entering the professional organizing field is wondering, "Can I make enough money doing this?" What is your outlook on this question?

It takes hard work, dedication and passion. It is very rewarding work. You get out of it what you put into it.

14. Which of the following marketing vehicles have you used to help you grow your business (direct mail, newspaper advertising, free workshops, radio, television, web site, e-zine, telemarketing, yellow pages, joint ventures with other professionals, publicity, other: please describe)?

I have used, newspaper advertising, free workshops, radio, television, web site, e-zine, yellow pages, strategic alliances, and publicity if I can get it.

15. Which one marketing technique have you found works the best for you? Please describe.

I believe that networking is the best marketing technique. If you can't sell yourself who can.

16. Describe a successful, creative marketing technique that you use, or that you've used in the past.

Extending your hand, introducing yourself to people at every opportunity and asking for waht you want. That person may not end up being a client, but the number of people they know multiplies your chances of growing your business.

17. Do you feel that networking plays a big role in growing your business?

As mentioned above, it is my best business growing vehicle.

18. What do you do to generate referrals?

Network, and I ask for business.

19. What do you find to be the most exciting part of your business?

Seeing the light go on for clients. When they e-mail me their business successes after we have organized their work space. I have clients who have added over $2000.00 to their bottom line monthly after we have finished their work space.

20. What do you find to be the most frustrating part of your business?

Administrative work...I'd rather be with clients.

21. Describe your greatest success in this field.

I am a previous Board member of Professional Organizers in Canada. The fact that I had been elected by our members to have a voice in what happens in this industry makes me feel honored.

22. As a professional organizer, do you have a funny story to share?

Not at this time.

23. As an organizer, what professional organizing information or tools are you always on the lookout for?

Time saving, money saving products or ideas.

24. Looking ahead, what do you see as your greatest challenge?

People's beliefs about admitting that they need help getting organized. If you are sick call a Doctor. If you can't find your keys call a Professional, A Professional Organizer.

25. What is your best tip for people interested in becoming professional organizers?

If you are passionate about organizing and love to help individuals free themselves go for it.
