1. What is the name of your company? Where are you located? How long have you been in business?

My name is Debra Land of Imagine This. I'm located in Brighton, Colorado and I've been in business for five years.

2. Is this your primary business, or a part-time business?

This is my primary business.

3. Are you a member of NAPO? (Please indicate if you're an officer.)

Yes, I am a member of NAPO.

4. Why did you become a professional organizer?

I have always enjoyed organizing. I like helping others to get their lives organized.

5. What type of organizing do you specialize in (home, office, etc.)?

I organize entire homes including garages, offices (and the setup of offices) closet design and relocating home or office. Also decluttering homes when being put on the market. I also include paper management.



6. Do you sell products, services, or seminars? Please describe.

At this time I do not sell any products. I offer notary service. I also do presentations.

7. Have you written a book(s)? If so, what is the title(s)?

No, I haven't.

8. Do you publish a newsletter? If so, is it a print newsletter, or an e-zine? Is it free, or is there a charge?

Not at this time.

9. Do you have a web site? If so, what is the address?

I am working on my web site, so hopefully soon.

10. Is travel a big part of your business?

Yes, it is.

11. Who is your primary target audience?

My target audiences are housewives, home offices, businesswomen and wives trying to organize their husbands.

12. Describe your typical workday.

My day consists of lining up presentations, returning prospects phone calls and putting packets of information together to mail out. I'm always doing research to see how I may improve my business.

13. Every person interested in entering the professional organizing field is wondering, "Can I make enough money doing this?" What is your outlook on this question?

I would have to say yes. At first it is tough getting started. If you enjoy organizing and helping others, it is very rewarding.

14. Which of the following marketing vehicles have you used to help you grow your business (direct mail, newspaper advertising, free workshops, radio, television, web site, e-zine, telemarketing, yellow pages, joint ventures with other professionals, publicity, other: please describe)?

I've used direct mail, magazine ads, presentations and referrals.

15. Which one marketing technique have you found works the best for you? Please describe.

Referrals has been my best to date.



16. Describe a successful, creative marketing technique that you use, or that you've used in the past.

I always offer something free, like a free hour of consultation or a free organizing quiz.

17. Do you feel that networking plays a big role in growing your business?

Yes. It's all about getting your name out in the public's eye.

18. What do you do to generate referrals?

I ask clients for referrals. I also get referrals during and after presentations..

19. What do you find to be the most exciting part of your business?

For me, it's meeting people and seeing their faces when the project is finished.

20. What do you find to be the most frustrating part of your business?

Getting people to realize that organizing is an investment.

21. Describe your greatest success in this field.

Once, I met with a prospect to organize her garage. She was so pleased she wanted to hire me to do her entire home!

22. As a professional organizer, do you have a funny story to share?

Not at this time.

23. As an organizer, what professional organizing information or tools are you always on the lookout for?

I'm always looking for shelving units with doors and cloth organizers to hang on the doors with pockets.



24. Looking ahead, what do you see as your greatest challenge?

My greatest challenge is acquiring clients on a more consistent basis.

25. What is your best tip for people interested in becoming professional organizers?
