How Much Should You Invest In Your Business? by Maria Gracia Very often, a professional organizer will call or write asking how much money would have to be invested in a professional organizing business, for it to really be successful. Here is my advice on this question: 1. NEVER INVEST MONEY ON A GUESS. Before spending any kind of substantial amount of money, I caution you to test what you're going to do on a small sample of people. For example, if you're planning to do a direct mail campaign, rather than sending out your initial letter to 2000 people, I would first recommend you send it out to 200 people. If you don't get the response you need to make this campaign possible from those 200 people, you're certainly not going to get that needed response if you send your letter out to 2000 people. Test, test, test. Only invest your money on proven systems. 2. MARKETING IS NOT ONE SIZE FITS ALL. If a fellow organizer just invested money in a postcard campaign and told you that it really worked beautifully, can you count on investing the same amount of money, and achieving a similar, if not better, result? Be very, very careful of trying to imitate someone else's marketing efforts, without knowing all the facts. What appears to be a good investment on the surface, can potentially lose you a lot of money. 3. IF YOU KNEW THAT IF YOU INVESTED $100, YOU'D MAKE $200, WOULD YOU DO IT? Seems like a silly question, right? Obviously, if you knew that with every investment you made, your investment would double, you probably wouldn't have a problem investing as much money as you could. Once you have a marketing strategy, that consistently pulls in the same percentage of sales each month, increasing your investment would only make sense--especially that each time you invest more money, you would bring in more sales.
