Monthly Organizing Checklist September, 2017 Autumn is the perfect time of year to turn over a new leaf and get organized. Start today with our NEW September 2017 Organizing Checklist! Join our weekly newsletter to be notified when the newest checklist is available. For a PRINTABLE VERSION, click here __ Sep 1 Spruce up the entrance to your home, including the front porch. Add some fall decorations and a new welcome mat. __ Sep 2 Take care of the yard by trimming bushes and trees, blowing out sprinklers if you are ready to shut them off, and cleaning out the gutters. Get family or friends to help you. Afterwards, treat everyone to pear cobbler or ice cream. __ Sep 3 Have 30 minutes of “calendar time” with your family or even just yourself. If you use paper methods, grab colored pens to organize each person’s schedule for the month, or use a different color for each category of activity. Otherwise, have everyone bring their cell phones for digital calendar entry. Your family may want to use a collaborative online calendar service, such as Cozi. __ Sep 4 Celebrate Labor Day by having a relaxing picnic with friends and family. __ Sep 5 Send the kids off to school and sort and organize their toys while they are gone. Donate gently used toys, which are no longer played with, and discard any broken toys.  __ Sep 6 Sort and organize your books, keeping your favorite and classic ones. Donate any that you no longer love. Be sure and dust the book shelves before replacing the books. .__ Sep 7 Take time for yourself and read one of those books you have always wanted to read. __ Sep 8 Holding a grudge? Forgive someone today. __ Sep 9 Clean the baseboards in each room. Remember the ones behind the furniture. __ Sep 10 Serve others by visiting neighbors, family, or those who are sick. Let your children draw cards to give to them. __ Sep 11 911 Remembrance Day. Take some time to remember and honor the victims of that horrible day. Take some treats to the local police and fire fighters in appreciation of their service. __ Sep 12 Clean and water your house plants. Use an electrostatic cloth to wipe the leaves. __ Sep 13 Clean all bedding including sheets, blankets, bed skirts, comforters, and pillows. Add extra blankets to the beds for those cooler nights. __ Sep 14 Check your fire extinguishers. If necessary, schedule a fire extinguisher service call. Review fire safety and an emergency escape plan with your family. __ Sep 15 Clean your ducts and vents. Replace your air filters. __ Sep 16 Have a date night with your spouse or a good friend. Focus on each other. __ Sep 17 Have a board game night. Bring out the snack food and enjoy playing some old-fashioned games. __ Sep 18 Organize the coat closets. Check the condition of coats and winter wear. Replace any worn or missing items. __ Sep 19 Clean the outside of the windows in one room. Spray the screens and replace them with storm windows, if you have them. __ Sep 20 Clean out your fridge. Throw out all expired food, wipe down the shelves and bins, and place paper towels in the bins to absorb moisture. __ Sep 21 Clean behind and under the fridge and stove. Remember to vacuum the heat coils. __ Sep 22 Make a hobbit hovel, out of blankets and furniture, in the family room, and watch the hobbit movies with you family. __ Sep 23 Make a few freezer meals that you can pop one into the oven. It’s nice to be able to relax on some evenings with a ready-made meal. __ Sep 24 Take a drive to see the changing of the leaves. Collect a few and make some fall placemats. __ Sep 25 Clean and organize your digital files. Delete old email messages, answer any needing attention, and unsubscribe from any email lists that no longer serve your needs. __ Sep 26 Clean the window blinds in your home. Wipe them down with an old sock. __ Sep 27 Organize your linen closet. Place sheet sets into a matching pillowcase. Sort towels and pull worn ones. Use baskets for the wash clothes and hand towels. __ Sep 28 Wipe off your patio furniture and moved the furniture into your storage area, protecting it from the upcoming winter. __ Sep 29 Clean and organize one area of your garage. __ Sep 30 Plan meals for October.
