Organizing Challenge 5 Organizing challenges that can save you money This week’s Mini Challenges focus on saving money...but in simple ways that you wouldn’t normally think of. Accomplish these challenges this week, and you may even be motivated to keep them going longer for bigger savings in your future. 1. Skip buying a cup of coffee each morning: Instead of making a daily stop before work for a latte, buy yourself a coffee maker (if you don’t already have one) and a travel mug. Make yourself a cup before you leave the house. It’s much cheaper...and likely will have less calories too! 2. Avoid eating lunch out every day: Buying lunch in restaurants each day can add up. Bring a healthy lunch with you...a salad, some yogurt and fruit, turkey on whole grain bread...and you’ll save money. Plus, you’ll be eating healthier. Can’t stand being cooped up in the office? Grab your bagged lunch and eat somewhere outdoors or stop at the mall food court and find a table there. 3. Take a run or ride your bike: Do you really need to drive, ride the bus, take the subway, or take a taxi...everywhere? When possible, save on fuel or public transportation money, and walk, run, or ride your bike there instead. You’ll be doing something healthy for your body at the same time. 4. Buy with cash: Withdraw a certain amount of spending money each week from your ATM machine or bank. Once that spending money is gone, don’t take out any more until your designated day next week. In fact, next week, see if you can live on a dollar or two less! Make it a game...you’ll be surprised at how much money you save when you put your plastic away. 5. Call your cable company and other services: Just one call to my cable company saved us over $40 per month.  There are always new programs available from your cable company, phone service, and other companies that you’re paying monthly fees. Don’t just accept the fees each time they appear on your bank or credit card statement. Always call to be sure you’re getting the best deal for your current needs.
