Well, I may be disciplined, as Cyd says, at Costco, but step into the Asian grocery store and I leave my discipline at the door before I go in! laugh

Splurged $36 at the Asian grocery store, yesterday! I say splurged because, except for a few vegetables and fruits, just about everything else we bought were snacks! Sesame/peanut candy! Almond crackers! Almond puff cookies! Lemon puff cookies! Green tea crackers! A large bottle of Calpico drink for DD!

Oh, and that's not all - from their take-out counter, we bought 4 paprika-green onion hot dogs (they are almost like pigs in blankets, since the hot dog is baked into the bun) and 2 cream puffs! That was our dinner, last night, and there are 2 more hot dogs left for DD for the weekend!

What indulgence! laugh

I hope you enjoy your snacks!

Since my marathon cooking session, meals are so much easier. Before shopping I went through the pantry and the fridge. We eaten up wild rice, brown rice, barley and couscous. I've also used up several opened bottles of condiments. In addition several s/f drink packages have been consumed. I feel like things are coming together, at least on the cooking front.

Striving, thanks, we are enjoying them! smile Glad to hear that the marathon cooking session has made meals a lot easier for you.

***************

A certain somebody has to stay out of the grocery stores! I've spent almost all my Aug. grocery budget, and there are still 11 more days left in the month!

Friday's grocery trip at the Asian market, as I mentioned earlier = $35.80; bought snacks, baby bok choy, cauliflower, mangoes, bananas, etc.

Saturday's grocery trip at the other ethnic market = $16.54; bought pork @$1.99/lb, lettuce, red potatoes, green bell pepper, carrots, green beans, cucumber, pears, grapes, cherries, kiwi, and chocolate drink mix.

Today's grocery trip at the regular grocery store = $14.54; bought split chicken breasts @ $.79/lb; eggs @ $1.50/doz.; oil; banana chips; frozen fish (pollock), $2.49/lb; and 2 bagels @$.59

Total spent on groceries so far in Aug. = $76.49 + $35.80 + $16.54 + $14.54 = $143.37
Amt. left in the Aug. grocery budget: $147.93 - $143.37 = $4.56!!!

But it will be just fine. I have a freezer full of meat (and fish), a fridge full of veg. and fruit, and cabinets full of snacks! As far as I can tell, I won't be needing any more groceries this month. Just need to eat from what I have already bought.

And...STAY OUT OF THE GROCERY STORES! laugh

By the way, this is the first time I've bought pollock, so, if anyone has good recipes, let me know.

Cut up and cooked one of the packages of chicken breasts, tonight. Cut off the rib bones and put in the freezer to make chicken soup, later. Made a sort of stir-fry with the red potatoes, some of the carrots, some of the green beans and part of the cauliflower. Dinner for tonight and leftovers for tomorrow's lunch.

By the way Bless, I have been the same way about staying away from the grocery stores- I think partly due to the fact that I am excited to be able to go to the store (easier-transportation wise) but also the fact that there are fresh foods etc. I am hoping the novelty of it will wear off soon.

I told DH yesterday, other than a bit of produce, we're not buying ANYTHING until the first of the month.

We had leftovers (chicken & stir fried veg) for dinner, last night. Packed the last of the leftovers for today's lunch.

DD requested more of the pork stir-fry I made the other night (thinly sliced pork, cooked with onions & bell pepper), so, might make some more tonight.

I made the pork stir-fry, last night, and DD decided she wasn't hungry for dinner! I think she might have snacked while I took a nap! So, I had the stir-fry with rice for dinner and packed most of the leftovers for our lunches for today. There is what DD didn't eat for her dinner last night leftover - I might send it for her lunch, tomorrow.

Not decided, yet, about what to make for tonight's dinner!

Last Friday I made a huge batch of pork, zucchini and mushroom risotto. DH and I have been eating that on and off since then, finally finished it last night. I made a bunch of chicken salad (with grapes and almonds) on Monday morning and we've had at least 9 portions out of that since then. There's one left that DH can have with a big salad tonight.
