Does anyone remember Toffler's book 'Future Shock?' The changes we've undergone in the past 30 years are simplistic considering what is to come by 2050. Steve Jobs is merely one man but the changes he made popular have changed how business is done everywhere. Sick as he is...he opened the door to iCloud on Monday at Apple's AGM. Filing will be in superspace as ChefSam has explained.

Yes, I reemmber reading Future Shock circa 1973, and it was a little scary. Now much of what was forecast has come to pass, such as hip and knee replacements, etc. There was also an intersting chapter on helping people who couldn't cope with change; they would be able to live in communities "by century," so if you couldn't handle the 20th, you could be somewhere and do things the way they did in the 19th.

I confess to not knowing what "clouds" or "iCloud" is. I will continue to file most of my "stuff" either on my computer or in my file drawers.

The cloud can simply be termed the big hard drive in the sky. What it means is you don't have to store things on your computer. You can store documents, music, movies, etc in the cloud instead. Google docs is a good example of cloud computing. You create the document/spreadsheet, etc and store it in Google's server. You access it via an internet link. You can also allow open access to it by others or private access via an invitation you send. It's fantastic for sharing documents.

I never read Future Shock, but I watched a lot of "Star Trek the Next Generation" and admired the computers with people talking on the screen. Never dreamed that one day this would be a reality. Thanks to Skype we have had many "face to face" conversations with family and friends over thousands of miles away!

My PDA is about to hit the dust (10 years or more old) so I'm looking into getting a tablet that will have all the same stuff--contacts, daily list of appts., notepad, etc. (Smartphones font too small for me to read even with enlarging it as then it takes forever to read the darn thing!!).

Already have a Kindle (like when it first came out & love it as have too many books).

My son & son-in-law have the iPhone & the coverage is terrible in Sedona (where we spend a lot of time) & San Francisco & Seattle (where they live). Son-in-law has an iPhone & Blackberry due to poor coverage!

So wanting to make sure tablet will have coverage when I need it outside of our wifi at each home (myfi device where you have your own internet essentially & don't have to have a contract; size of a pack of cards & works up to 5 devices at the same time). So far the one I looked at tested well in all the locations I tried.

Right now using PDA for appts. & important to-dos for that specific day like getting boarding passes & contacts, etc.--but use steno notebook to write down phone calls (grouped at bottom & put a time when I plan to do them all together w/notes so I remember to cover everything) & to figure out my timeline for the day.

Thinking a tablet can replace my PDA & steno pad...

Phone is used FOR PHONE CALLS! And texts & stuff like alarm clock or some calendar things (mostly stuff I need an alarm for like boarding passes 24 hrs. in advance)--not much else even though it has the capacity as already have a great camera (have taken photos on phone for slideshow for "screensaver").

SO researching it & think I have found the right one--but for some reason it is hard for me to spend the money (when I waste money on so many other things & husband says to do it!).

Oh well--another neurosis!--Suzy

I don't use a phone for any lists, because my phone is so basic it doesn't have a lot of features on it. It would be easier for me to write some notes in a small notebook.

For most of my lists, I put them on the computer, and adjust them as I get things done. This is especially true for daily to-dos. For those of you who can sync a computer with a phone or iPad or whatever you have, it might be easiest to do the list on the computer (larger screen and keyboard), then send what you've typed to your other equipment.

Thanks, Judy!

I'm a list person, so your idea is a lovely extension of what works well for me!

Well, maybe update time! I did purchase a tablet & it wasn't that great (maybe because it wasn't the top of the line?) so I returned it & got an iPad. WOW--excellent. I have everything on there--my address book, my calendar, my email (got one w/wifi wherever I am so I don't have to rely on hotspots but when there is a hotspot it will tune into that automatically), my photos.

Just so many apps available that it has really turned into an all purpose device (free nook app, iBooks, Flipboard, Pocket, dictionary, recipes, playing games w/my kids, NPR, it is just insane all the free or low cost apps, iTunes U is great...).

So, anyway, I love it & got my husband an iPhone for free due to his company having some kind of deal w/the carrier & now he who never turned on his darn basic phone (I would leave dozens of messages like, "Turn on your phone."--only louder each time & maybe a little more colorful language).

He had to get it set up w/his work so he has not only a password but a fingerprint identification on it as he does on his laptop due to all his firewalls--but he now doesn't run by his OP (office professional) in the morning saying, "Where is my next meeting?" He had to do that because he would always rush in after playing tennis & didn't have time to stop in his office & check his laptop calendar. Now his calendar is w/him always.

Only problem is that he can check email constantly, too, & since AZ is 3 hours earlier than his work location those emails start fast & furious early!--Suzy

For a day book the use of identification tag is most important. It can be on the front page or inside the book. For the security of book it should be engraved rather than with pen and ink. For the purpose of engraving the identification tags the V cutter should be used.
