Which do you do first? Dust? Or vacuum? I generally dust first and then vacuum. Which is what I did in my bedroom, today. And then, I looked at the top of the chest of drawers and it's as if I didn't dust at all! Already, there was a film of dust on it! So, I wondered - should I vacuum first and then dust? What do you do? Opinions, please.

It seems no matter what I do it's like shoveling in a blizzard. With 4 pets, a teenager and a husband who seems to be an expert at mess making, I could vacuum and 2 seconds later, it's dirty again.
We also have a huge amount of dust no matter all the time too. It's so frustrating.
My first reaction would be to dust first and then vacuum but like I said, doesn't seem to matter in our house!

Bless, when I was going thru chemo, there was a group that donated house cleaning for chemo patients. I was fortunate in that they had an opening and I qualified. I noticed that when they came and cleaned here, they dusted first and then vacuumed. But I've heard that vacuuming stirs up dust so it's a toss up whether it's dust or vacuum first.
In this house it doesn't seem to matter between the long haired cat and the African Grey parrot....between the 2 of them, there's plenty of dust from the dander alone. My habit is just to dust first then vacuum.

Since DH vacuums, he prefers that I dust before he vacuums. I always manage to get bits of dirt on the floor when I wipe the base of the tables or chair legs much to his distress.
I have a sofa table with glass inserts with which I have a love/hate relationship. I clean it & an hour later the glass looks dusty again whether the vacuum has been run or not!

I generally dust first, but have found that when I am in a hurry and can only do one thing, its always the sweeping(only have to vacuum the basement).
This weekend, yesterday as a matter of fact, I had an aha moment. The vacuum does push more into the air, but I sweep(hardwoods, tile and vinyl throughout). So I did the detail sweeping, moving all furniture. Then when I went back to "dust", I used the wet disinfectant wipes. No dust on the pieces I did, nothing on the floor, and nothing anywhere, even when I did the ceiling fans in all 3 bedrooms!
Think I am going to keep doing this reverse strategy as it seems to work better for me! Now if I could just get SO, his son and son's friends to do the same in the basement.....hhhhmmmm!!!
