Thanks for the review Carol, I love coconut so I'll probably be ok with it!

I've been using just the coconut oil around my eyes at night and they feel great. What I do is take about a teaspoon at a time and put it in a shot glass and keep that on my nightstand. Then keep the rest of the jar of coconut oil in the fridge. You only need the tiniest amount.

I am running low on my body lotion and would really love to switch to something more natural. I've heard good things about cocoa butter vs coconut oil. Any ideas on where to get it? I try to avoid Whole Foods.

My skin gets pretty dry in the winter but I use lotion all year round (have no choice in the winter though)

Thanks!

Do you have a Trader Joe's nearby? I swear by coconut oil but if you do use it, be sure to keep most of it in the fridge so it doesn't spoil. That will last for a long time. I keep a shot glass full of coconut oil on my nightstand to use. It lasts quite a while. A big jar is only 5.99 at TJ.

That's a great price! There is one "close" but it's not in an area I go to often since it takes awhile due to traffic. (I didn't even know there was one in the state).

I did an online search at Target and got mostly sunscreens which I figured.

What kind of store is Trader Joe's?

I've heard cocoa butter is just as good if not better - maybe it's due to the smell. I saw the baby oil/vaseline recipes and they just sound a bit heavy for my skin. I can't see vaseline absorbing very well?

Trader Joe's specializes in natural and mostly organic foods. Kind of like a cheap Whole Foods. At that price, why not try it? :-) Cocoa butter has a smell also. I think they'd both be good, try and see which one you like better?

FYI: you can find coconut oil in many grocery stores, it's used as a cooking oil primarily. It looks like solid wax until you touch it or it gets warm.

Also, if your grocery store doesn't have it, look for an asian grocer.

It does have a smell when you first put it on but it goes away quickly. Doesn't last long.

I do like the coconut smell so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm just sure I want to smell edible all day. smile

I'll try the grocery store first since I am there every week. I am trying not to make this a drive all over for 3 ingredients project! I didn't know it was the same as the coconut cooking oil.

Are you still happy with what you made? It's been a few months now.

How about the cocoa oil, I'm thinking that will be harder to find. We had a great little natural food store here forever, but Whole Foods put them under a couple of years ago. frown

I didn't add anything to it, just use it straight. I use it for my whole body now! I love it.

No distilled water or vitamin E? That's awesome! I'm so happy to hear that. Do you use it right out of the jar, have to soften it or anything?

What is your skin type if you don't mind me asking? Mine is normal but living in the northeast it does get pretty dry in the winter, my legs especially.

I changed my facial lotion for the first time in 20 years after my divorce and found the new stuff didn't work as well plus I went through it twice as fast. I may be hesitant to change that but I'm game on my arms and legs. smile

You've made my day!
