Hand Cream

16 oz. baby lotion
8 oz. Vaseline
8 oz. Vitamin E cream (this is in the body lotion section of the store, usually on the bottom shelf)

Combine all ingredients with a hand mixer until it is smooth and fluffy like cake icing. Package in individual containers.

I do, too, but darn it, I finally thought I had got the ingredients for the hand cream and then realised that I had Vitamin E ointment, not cream, and that my other ingredients were measured in other than ounces! I am determined that I will try this recipe one day.

Frugal (or anyone else)...Do you happen to have a recipe for an eye cream? All of those that I have run across so far require so many ingredients. I suppose a cream is a cream and I could use the hand cream recipe. I'm not really sure about that though. Any thoughts?

@Carol

I found this recipe online. I have not made it.

EYE Cream
1/4 c Coconut oil - this will be a solid
6 Vitamin E capsules
Container with a lid
Clean stick (popsicle type) for mixing

Put Coconut oil in a clean container with a lid. Put in microwave for a few seconds to melt the oil. Poke a hole in the Vitamin E capsules and squeeze the Vitamin E into the Coconut oil. Mix together well. Put in refrigerator until mixture is solid again. Store in a closed container. It said the oils do not become rancid but I have never made this so I do not know this to be fact.

Well that sounds easy enough. I'll have to see if they have coconut oil at one of our local stores for a good price and then give it a try. Thanks!!!!

This evening, I made up a batch of lemon verbana liquid hand soap, but as of yet it isn't setting up the way that I would like it to, very runny at this point. I'll see how it is in the morning after cooling all night. If it's still runny, I think I'll try adding another 1/2 bar of grated soap to it and see if that will do the trick.

CG,
Our Trader Joe's has coconut oil for $5.99 for 16 oz. I just used it to make vegan cupcakes.

They also have the vitamin E capsules.

Our local Raley's has a pretty big health food department so I'm going to check there. If I don't find it, I will check at TJ's next time I'm in the city. Thanks!

We have success! Lemon Verbena Liquid Hand Soap is finished and it smells SO good. For only $2, I made probably a half gallon of the stuff. We're gonna have us some clean and pretty smellin' hands for quite a while.

Liquid Hand Soap Recipe

1 bar of soap (whatever kind you would like)
10 cups water
1 TBLSP liquid glycerin

Grate one bar of soap (I had a BIG 8 oz bar of natural lemon verbena soap and I only grated 1/2 the bar so I would say a regular 3-5 oz bar would be just fine. It's really not an exact science.)

Put that in a large pot along with 10 cups water and 1 Tblsp liquid glycerin. Heat until all the grated soap is melted. It doesn't take too long, maybe 5 minutes.

Let sit until fully cooled. I let mine sit overnight. It will congeal and become very thick. Once cooled, stir the "concoction" until it becomes a smooth consistency. Using a funnel, pour into containers.

It makes A LOT! so make sure to have a large container to store your extra in. I am using an old peanut butter jar and a couple of empty water bottles, but you would use whatever you have on hand (ie, empty milk jug or juice bottle would be perfect).

I got my coconut oil and made myself a little jar of the eye cream. I'm waiting for it to solidify right now and will try it out tonight. I'll let you all know what I think after I've given it a try. I kind of wish I had some essential oil to add to it because, well, it smells like coconut oil and I'm not a huge fan. It's OK, but not my favorite.

Question for you. I've looked at several resources and found conflicting information as to storage and there isn't anything on the container label. Should I store the coconut oil in the refrigerator or in the cupboard?

I said I'd be back with a review of the eye cream that I made so here I am.

I still don't like the smell of it, but it goes away pretty quickly after applying it so I'll leave it be.

In looking to make my own eye cream, I was just looking for a less expensive way of moisturizing the skin in my eye area, but I am very pleased to announce that even after just a few days, I am noticing a difference, which I wasn't even after. I have seen the faint dark circles diminishing and even the tiny lines. I really didn't have a problem before, but I'm pleasantly surprised with the results of using just this mixture of coconut oil and vitamin E. And, I LOVE not having to shell out a ton of money for it. And, I also love that there are no chemicals that I can't pronounce.
