Starting this on Friday for people who want to work on the branches over the weekend. Think of your home as a tree and each room is a branch of that tree.
First, break the house up into branches (manageable areas), which can be DEEP cleaned in a week's time.
For each branch, compile a list of all the tasks you'll need to do to get that room to SPARKLE! This includes cleaning, dusting and vacuuming the areas behind and under furniture, washing windows and curtains, etc.
Also, put together a Weekly Cleaning List to keep things looking good. Each week, finish your Weekly Cleaning THEN focus on doing some deep cleaning in this week's branch.
Cycle through the branches, one per week, to maintain a high level of cleanliness throughout the house.
Here's the schedule of Branches we'll be following:
Week 1: Entry/Living Room Week 2: Dining Room/Laundry Room Week 3: Bathrooms/Front Porch Week 4: Kitchen/Back Porch Week 5: Children’s Room/Guest Room + Closets for those rooms Week 6: Family Room/Room of choice Week 7: Master Bedroom/Master Closet Week 8: All House Cleaning
Some sample "Choice" Rooms: Office, Pantry, Craft Room, Garage, Attic, etc.
Make your master and individual branch lists work for YOU. The lists we share here are just our own examples; yours should be designed to suit your own home and situation.
If the branch you're working on needs decluttering, focus on that first. It's much easier to clean a room that doesn't have piles and boxes everywhere. Even if the whole house needs decluttering, this is a good way to focus on a room at a time on a regular schedule.
This isn't a competition. Just go at your own pace, as that will be exactly right for you. We are all here to support and encourage one another.
Start with a new branch each week. If you don't finish all the tasks on your branch list for the week, that's OK--you're already ahead of where you were before, and the unfinished tasks will still be there for you when you cycle back to this branch. If you finish early one week, you can go back to work on previous branches.
Good luck.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Going to finish up my craft room and just clean and dust in the Master bedroom this upcoming week.
I know many of you are busy with the upcoming Easter holiday, and might not start in on your branch work until next week, but wanted to get this up and posted or others who like to start early.
The week went by so fast again, hardly had time to clean the second bedroom! I wish I could say ‘sayonara’ until branch comes back but I have to take care of some of the items on my list. Got stuff on the bed and all over the table, it’s the only window in the apartment left to clean so might as well take care of it. The filing cabinet is in this room and I need to sort and file some papers but some stuff on the floor is taking precious space in front. Tomorrow I'm free until 2:00 so I guess I'll tackle it then.
As far as the master bedroom is concerned I've dusted the furniture today, folded all of the clothes I've been washing (almost two weeks worth!), went through part of my summer wardrobe and have about 12 pieces to donate. I have also cleaned the window. I sorted and discarded a few magazines.
This week I will continue with eliminating the magazines. Then wash the bedding, not sure if I'm ready to change it to my summer sheets though, I like it warm and cozy!
Not going to tackle the closet until the weather is more stable here. Just going to clean the MB and bath and let it go for this week.
Bubblegum: Hopefully you will get that second bedroom taken care of.
Kimberly: Love when that happens before you know the branch for that week.
Karen: Great going on the closet and sale. Hope all items sell.
Did a quick straightening up in the MBR when DD was coming. Still needs a deep clean and some PUPA.
Needed some papers for Mom yesterday, and since the estate stuff is in the corner, ended up with papers all over the bed. Will try to file them today instead of just putting them in a box.
I'm going to try branches and see if I can get back on track. With it being the master bedroom I stand a chance.
I went through the closet when I got the spring clothes down so it's in fairly good shape. I need to go through the boxes under the bed. Also I store table cloths under there and I need to see if I could toss any.
I will clean the windows tomorrow and wash the sheers. I already did the bed last Friday so it's fine. I will take my throw and have it cleaned. I will miss it even gone only over night.
My jewelry and purses in the one closet does need gone through. I just hate parting with a purse though. I think the jewelry I might box some up and to use at another time. Right now there is so much hanging so closely I can't appericate it to really wear.
Wiped the blinds and furniture in the bedroom this morning. Mopped the bathroom. Will vacuum later today and put the rug back down in the bathroom when the floor dries.
Did a quick ETE in the bedroom for items I left out yesterday!
