Thank you for the kind words, ladies. smile

I concentrated on doing general house cleaning this weekend, so the ROTM will have to wait. But it should be OK. It'll be easier for me to focus on one room when I know that the rest of the house is in good order.

I managed a few baby steps on my ROTM (living room) even though I seemed to have made a bigger mess so far! Oh well... that's part of the reorganizing process.

My buffet is finally fixed up and ready to be put to good use (it has been gathering junk since it's been "needing fixing"). I no longer use it for storing my so-called good dishes so I will repurpose it. The junk has been evicted and now I am planning on setting the buffet up as office/computer storage, even though the location in the room is less than ideal for that purpose.

As part of the process, I want to arrange for a better place for the useful junk in the basement and part company with the useless junk. I have a file cabinet and a large desk in the basement that are NOT being used efficiently. So I think I can accomplish the majority of my goals by reorganizing, tossing and repurposing using current belongings. I know for certain that I do not want to buy any thing new/different until I am absolutely sure as to what is going to work.

Things we access frequently need to be in the living room whereas less used items could just as well "live" in the basement. I may need to back up one step further on this larger project by clearing clutter and useless junk out of the desk and file cabinet in the basement.

It looks like my ROTM project just grew bigger. Oh well, every baby step is a step in the right direction. I do not have to finish this entire project today!

Did some work in the ROTM, and have a few things added to my donation list. Will put the list up when I take them over.

Right you are Darlene, how the reorganizing some times makes a bigger mess, but it sometimes is necessary in order to complete
the project and/or organizing.

I also did some branch work, and got more clothing for donations.

Worked on some beaded ornaments I was given from the Center that someone had donated. Some had been started already.

Bless:
Glad you are not stressing about the ROTM. It isn't worth it!

Did the laundry and it is put away.

Darlene, I'm considering moving my sewing 'station' from the main floor laundry rm. to the lower level family rm. or Bdrm #4. I recall your lovely room and wonder if that layout worked well, whether you felt isolated working in the basement. How do you organize your fabric stash and small supplies? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. [help, help, help GONers]

Since you have a desk and file cabinet downstairs, would you find it practical to add the computer to do 'desk day' in that area and use a linked and oh so portable laptop or iPad in the living rm? With technology changing so fast, you can buy either lap top or iPad 'used' for half the cost from 'tekkies' who seem to need to upgrade with every new bauble/model. ...just a thought

I decided I didn't need two guest rooms, so I made one into a craft room. I have a lot of items and store most of the yarns, papers, downstairs. I get what I need and bring it up to the craft room. I also do my sewing upstairs. Didn't want to carry a heavy sewing machine up and down. Although it would be wonderful to have everything together it is not possible.

Dianaro, like that you have the craft room upstairs. If your basement is anything like mine, it's not only not as well lit for crafting/etc, but also much cooler in this weather than it is on the main level. I had thought about moving my office downstairs, but decided against it for just those reasons, I envision myself downstairs with the heat turned up another 5 degrees......bbbbrrr!

My day off yesterday was spent snoozing and nursing me and SO. He woke up for work and had stuff coming out both ends so he was home sick all day....finally got him to eat dinner. I got the beginnings of a migraine late morning so spent good part of day nursing that with drugs and naps so no progress in ROTM. Both of us were fine by end of day, so I decided to make some clam chowder and took it over to his best friend's family....very cool as they sent me home with her homemade split pea for the freezer....yummy.

Did a bit of work in the office. Still nowhere near where I want it to be but it's a work in progress. The desk top remains about 70% clear so I feel like that is good progress for me. Will have SO's son this weekend and they like to do u-tube and facebook a lot so want the desk top to be clear when they get here. No need for spying eyes looking at things I don't want them to see. (its not that they are spying, its just curious looking at stuff that's out and on top) Will be off on Thursday so looking forward to some real progress then......may not be where I want it but looking better every day!

And I just keep telling myself that its the baby steps that count and add up!

Cyd, when I had my sewing stuff in the basement, I found that I didn't like being down there for multiple reasons - 1. it was chillier in the basement, 2. it was yucky looking (badly in need of renovating), 3. the lighting was horrid (again, related to the need for renovating), 4. the floor was dirty (bare cement) and 5. I felt isolated.

Meanwhile, we were not making use of the spare bedroom as a place for guests to sleep so we made the choice to use that room for my sewing stuff. Our most frequent "guests" (aka DGchildren) preferred camping on the living room floor.

As for ideas for organizing sewing and craft supplies, I'm going to set up a new thread on the Favorite Tips board for that. There are several people on these boards that have found various ways to do that.
