Well today I had the day off.

I organized my linen closet - donated 3 things
Started to clean out another closet and it is just driving me insane but I did get 5 things from there to donate

5 + 3 = 8

Then I went to the kitchen and found 3 things to donate from there

8 + 3 = 11

Still working on the rest of the house so I will report back when I have more.

You are all doing such wonderful tossing. I just tossed a bag of papers last night/afternoon, but not going to count those.

Okay I posted this yesterday and was sent a message to describe it better so that I can get some suggestions to help me.

This closets houses the following items
- vaccum
- floor cleaner
- swifter wetjet
- papertowel
- toliet paper
- kleenex boxes
- 2x cake holders
- george forman grill

Right how the shelf is a metal one that you can by from Canadian Tire, Home Depot and the floor cleaner and vaccum don't even fit into the closet.

HELP!

Tossing has been slow, but I am picking up some momentum.

5 magazines
3 recipe books
5 folders with assorted recipes-I have gone through them and taken out only what I know I will absolutely do something with
2 more sweaters
3 pair of slippersocks that are too slippery on the hardwood floors
10 file folders of things from the office that have been shredded and tossed
3 ripped t shirts that SO doesn't know about(he will keep them if the holes are smaller than a quarter, never mind the fact that he owns tons!)

I have also started an office supply donation box that has 20 pads of logo'd post it notes from various places, 30 logo'd pens and pencils, 12 logo'd highlighters and another dozen items, also logo'd. Funny that when I was self employed and people would give them away I would stockpile them.....Now I just want them out of the house!

And boy, does it feel good to have empty spaces.....looking forward to more of the same!

Prior total 95 plus 105.......200 and counting!

Mother Christmas, what kind of vacuum [upright, canister?] what prevents it from fitting in closet? Is it possible/practical to re-jig items to give vacuum priority space, hang swiffer, floor cleaner at the sides, stack paper products in a plastic bin and use the shelf for GF grill & cake holders?

I start vacuuming in a different room each week. If I start on the main level [vacuum in the laundry rm], I finish upstairs in the guest bdrm and store the vacuum in that closet. The following week I start in the Master bdrm and finish in the laundry rm downstairs because I've noticed that by the time I get to the last two rooms they get less attention, making rotation effective.

Beaglelady....I so hear you about SO and his shirts. I have just cleared out the remainder of R's shirts. Oh WOW! I knew he had a lot, but I really had no idea how many. I am donating 63 to the church thrift store, sending 5 to his Colorado brother, and keeping about 30 to make a quilt. This doesn't even include the ones that I already donated. What is it with these men and their shirts? crazy

I've been a tossin' again for the past hour or two, and here is what I have:

Tossed:
- dishcloth
- 5 tiny boxes (have no idea WHY I'm keeping tiny boxes)
- fabric scraps (many, but I'll count it as one)
- cat brush (We haven't had an indoor cat in a year.)

Donate:
- Leash
- Cat clippers
- serving bowl/plate combo
- 4 plates
- 2 bowls
- basket
- 1 book
- 1 pair shorts
- 63 shirts (These were R's)
- 2 stuffed bunnies
- 5 Easter decorations
- Bathrobe

Sending to R's Colorado brother:
- 5 shirts
- Timer (R collected them)

Total today so far - 97 items
Previous total - 582 items

Grand Total for 2012 so far is 679! smile

You are doing great! Don't know why guys hang onto shirts, but obviously it has to be a guy thing. LOL

Mother Christmas
I was thinking along the lines of Cyd. Putting the papertowels etc., in baskets, and trying to fit the vacuum someplace else if it doesn't fit in that area.

Can you store them in the garage on hooks?

Finished my branch work for the week. YES! Have found 3 books to donate, along with 2 special yarns a friend was looking for, and a dress, and a kit for ornaments.

138 +7 = 145

Oh the shirts issue is defintely a "guy thing". My mom went through my dad's shirts one day and counted over 160 of them. Yet, he wears the same three shirts over and over again. But....you know if she were to get rid of just one of those other shirts, it would be the one he just HAD to have so she lets them be. crazy After 63 years of marriage, she has learned to pick her battles that's for sure.

Six more things outta here.

- Wooden trash can holder thingy.
- Plastic wrapping station (DD and I both hate the thing as it's too hard to get open)
- Two bikes and two helmets (I put them on freecycle and I have someone coming to pick them up.)

679 + 6 = 685 items tossed
