Beaglelady--I have the same thing with the socks. Since DH shops at Costco, he brings home new socks and many other things. But do you have an idea where I could send his other good socks that he doesn't wear anymore? Anyone else can chime in if they want.

Kimberly....Seems we both have the same goal in regards to the filing cabinet. I have a HUGE filing cabinet that is very heavy and will NOT be making the move with us so I'm going to try to condense it all down to two drawers in a smaller, much more manageable filing cabinet. One drawer for work, one for personal.

I've been in the hall closet and have 50 items so far to toss. I've not even made a dent in it yet, but it's a start. They are all bagged up and in the trunk of the car waiting to be donated.

256 previously tossed + 50 today = 306 total items tossed in 2012

Karalin, check with a local animal shelter. They might want them to tie knots in and make chew toys.

dianro2 - Thanks so much! I am looking at it as a GOOD Challenge! I told my friend what I was doing and I think she is on board also - if nothing else, she will also help with the accountability. I am going to start on Monday since I have an unexpected day off and DH will be at work. Rule #1 - DH must be out of the house when things exit or he will be dragging them back in. Black garbage bags and my car trunk also help. Do what you got to do.

Beaglelady and Karalin: Also, on the sock issue, how about a drop in shelter or organization that would help the homeless in your area? I have heard that you shouldn't give dogs socks because they can pull the threads and if they digest can get caught in their intestines and could require surgery in worst cases...I'm not an expert, but I don't take the chance with my girls.

Just a thought, I use the plastic file bins for my records.
In fact I may just donate the old file cabinets! They are in the basement too, and I really don't have the room or want them in the upstairs.
