I put the Christmas tree up Sunday. DH put the village up today. I will set the table for Thanksgiving tomorrow so that is done. We won't be tempted to put anything on it that does not belong there...

I was getting some early holiday sales emails and wanted a tablecloth for the new dining room table. I wrote down what I wanted and then saw some placemats I wanted too. I had it on my list for two days and then it dawned on me that I probably had a tablecloth in my fabric stash and I found 4 placemats in the linen drawer. I figure I saved $40. The tablecloth required quite a bit of steaming but that is okay. It is a dark red and will look fabulous with our silver chargers and white plates.

Thanksgiving is my one of my favorite holidays. It is the only holiday where we get two paid days off in the year. But more importantly it is about being with family and friends. For some of us in WI it is about football too because the Packers play the Lions every Thanksgiving day.

Love when we safe money and find things we can use Frugal, so it fits your name! LOL

I am having my DS1 and grandsons bring up the trees so I can start decorating them a little at a time. Also want to write out my cards this weekend.

Frugal...So funny that some people think that Thanksgiving and football go hand in hand. It will be the same way here. wink I will be cheering for the Packers bright and early tomorrow, and the rest of my family will be anxiously waiting for the Cowboys to play later. I secrety think they chose to have Thanksgiving here with me because I have R's big screen TV to watch the games on. wink

Today is actually a work day for me, but so far (and it's now after 10 am), I haven't done a darn thing work-related. One of the advantages of working from home for sure!

My poor DD is sick. Nasty sore throat and she just feels like crud. I sure hope that she's feeling better tomorrow otherwise I'll have to quarantine her to the upstairs. I'd rather she be very selfish with whatever bug she has and not share it with everybody.

Frugal: I don't know if I will be able to watch any TV tomorrow, but you know I'll be cheering for the Packers, too! laugh

Carol: Hope your DD feels better soon!

Just want to cheer for all my GONers on Thanksgiving. You all do great and hope you have a wonderful holiday if you are celebrating it in the states. I want you all to know that I am thankful for all of you, and helping me obtain my goals each month with your motivation, and ideas and support no matter where you live.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the US!

Happy Thursday to everyone else!

November Goals

Christmas preparations

I make it a point to find something special to read between Christmas and the New Year. Last winter I read War and Peace for the second time. The year before I listened to Wuthering Heights while knitting socks. smile

I have been contemplating reading material for this year for a while, but all I knew was that I wanted something I don't normally read. I happened to watch a historian speak about Abraham Lincoln on a podcast. I liked her and what she had to say was interesting, so I looked into books about Lincoln and found one written by her, which I promptly bought (Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin). I very seldom buy books, I usually borrow or swap, but if this book lives up to my expectations I'll grant it the rare honour of permanent shelf space in my home.

When I was about to leave the bookshop website, there was a recommendation for a book I had meant to read for quite some time. I checked if my library has it. Yes. So I made a reservation for it. It is also non-fiction, but funny. (A short history of everything by Bill Bryson)

Stocking up on necessities before Christmas is still an on going process. The parcel with chocolate and coffee for Christmas has arrived and the meal plan is also slowly evolving.

November clothes challenge
03 pieces ironed
07 pieces tried (clothes I had or ordered online)
01 pair of pants hemmed
11 tasks done
19 left

empty space challenge
2 bags of paper / cardboard taken to recycling
04 baby steps done
11 left

keep up
buy new comforter
identify and fix minor computer problem

The work on these goals has quite obviously not been very successful and I really can't say why. I have been busy this month, but there was nothing extraordinary that got in the way. I have bought and cooked some extra food I didn't keep track of. I just noticed the freezer was quite full when I last opened it. I also slow down when it gets cold and temps dropped dramatically during the second week of November. There have been plenty of cold, moist, gloomy days. I'm already waiting for spring.
