Karen:
I alerted ChefSam as to your question.

~~~~~~~~~
Hey, I actually did a babystep downstairs yesterday. Sylvester got locked in the basement, for a few hours! Was he a ticked off cat when I returned from my class! LOL Fortunately the alarm didn't go off, that would have been embarrassing. I didn't see him come down there while I was doing my babystep.
I have come to the conclusion that I have way too many things yet....Have to get stricter with myself and what all I am keeping!
just posted and it disappeared!!!!frustrating!!!
Chef, you are right in your post and it will be back on track. The possible thought of cohabitation has me looking even harder at the stuff I own and what I don't want and to question what I really need to keep.
As far as ROTM.....the papers from last night got shredded, then I found a folder of old sales training materials and sorted through those, starting yet another new shredding pile. Then I made the mistake of opening the closet door.....OMG!!!! I forgot how much stuff I have accumulated! I am thinking that with school starting, maybe I need to get a box toegether and donate that too.
With the rain last night it cooled off quite a bit. Went into the other ROTM, the garage and disassembled a four shelf storage unit and pur away a bunch of little things that will open up more floor space until I can do some serious tossing in there.
My caution about the post was to remind us all to keep things on the topic of organizing. We need to keep in mind that the person's motivations for making those types of decisions are private matters and to remember that we are on a public forum.
My comments were made because I felt that the poster was insinuating that there were moral issues to consider as well as financial issues and that has no place here on the forum. We are a diverse group with many different opinions and views, unfortunately none of which are relevant for the discussion of organizing.
This is the list that I posted on July 1. I've done precious little of it. Today, I am declaring "desk day" and will see how much of it I get done...
*clear off desk
*clear off table
*re-org desk/table
*go through 2 dishpans of paper
*go through 2-3 baskets of paper
*go through binders
*scrapbook (Feb - June)
*deliver donations
*org gifts with wrapping paper/cards to take with in Aug
Its been a decade since I joined and this is one of the first threads I used to regularly post on. I have of course made several rounds over the years and with adding family members have added a lot of stuff. Still, I'm frustrated with myself that I haven't been able to make the same commitment to the ROTM as I used to.
Thank you Diana for all your support over the years. You've made getting organized fun smile
I'll report back later with some progress!
Chef Sam thank you for explaining that. I read it as the advice was don't let saving money sway you follow whats in your heart, but after rereading the post I do see how it could be seen differently.
Beaglelady - Good luck with whatever you decide and with the decluttering in the meantime smile
Karen, I took it the same way and reread to see the other meaning....I think it was more from a put it out there perspective on my part and I will analyze it to death before a decision is made.
In the meantime, the plus side is that it really has me looking more at all the stuff I have. It makes me look back to when I went away to college and the fact that everything I owned and was important to me fit inside a full sized 9 passenger station wagon.....if only that were true now!!!!
But again, we all go through the growing phases in our lives where we think we need more. Then we get it and we need to organize it, then we question what we have, try to reorganize it and finally realize that no matter how much we get rid of, we will never get it down to where we were when we were just starting out, so we re-sort, toss some more and reorganize again!!!
I guess its just a viscious cycle!!! smile
Yes, in our lives we all have too much! When I see those storage units that people are loosing and what all they store in them, I am amazed at the JUNK in most of them! It definitely is an ongoing project....but if we settle on a number of items and continue to one in one out them, we should be in a comfortable place.
Did another babystep downstairs.
The Civil War deal was good. I still don't really like that time frame but I do know more. Trips are out because we don't have the money and I have at least 140 kids (last year 147)and that's to many to watch.
I found out a lot about DM & DF situtation. He didn't hit her he grab her because she was falling. We also discussed him going places so they have time away from each other.
I have gotten a lot done this week. I went through the sewing/craft room. I went through everything and tossed and cleaned. I even have an empty shelf. Plus I have an area to store stuff I'm using to decorate with. Will save me from having to go to the attic so much.
I gather up all the school supplies. I'll start going to school and working Monday. Hopefully it won't take me long to get ready.
I've also been moving my plants inside. They will be easier to water inside. With this heat it's to hard to keep everything watered. Problem is they've gotten so big. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when they get much bigger.
Today I'vegot some mailing to do and maybe work on some school work. Also I'm going to read my book.
Cindy
