What would be a good resource to stay up-todate on technology for the office?

Also, there are so many different types of offices! What is useful technology in one office may be entirely unnecessary in another.

One thing you might do is google "new technology X office", substituting the type of office work you do for the X.

New tech isn't always needed. If the current systems and resources are working well, they may not need an update. New tech always has a learning curve, which may be too time-consuming for the office's needs--I know I have to time software upgrades very carefully, since it will take me a while to learn the new program functions, and I can't take time to do that when in the middle of pressing projects.

So, start with considering what's working, what's not, and then google the options to fix what's not working.

If you have a local community college, tech center, or university, check out their offerings. Our university has a "Center for Teaching and Learning" that offers numerous workshops throughout the year on a variety of software packages and technologies.

I agree with ElizabethClark, new technology isn't always needed. Of course, if you keep old systems forever, you may eventually run into difficulties - you can keep only so far behind the rest of the world. I suspect my friends who are still using Windows 95 maybe eventually find they are getting more "out of the loop" in terms of computers.

On the other hand, there is a tendency - and I'd venture to say probably more common among men, but still observable with women - to go out and buy the latest gadget or upgrade - look at the stampede for the latest iphone. If someone gave me one free, maybe I would use it, but I certainly wouldn't buy one - not only because of the price, but because I don't need its capabilities. I have a regular cell phone that can do some of the same things, but I don't have them on the phone, because I want to save money. I live without a camera feature, and just take a camera if I want to take pictures, as I did at my cousin's wedding last month. We should recognize that we might just think we need the technology because it's now available, but should consider what we would actually do with it regularly before investing in it - both money and time.
