I don't have the room under the sink for one of the shelving units you described Simplicity. But.....I had a wire bin, and a small drawer cubie, and use that for under the sink. Keeps things contained and easy access. Of course the trash can and the extra bags are under there also, and the small dish drain.
That pretty much fills up the space.

Ann:
Great going, and I am like you, clutter upsets me, so I am better off just having less on there and only things I use every day.

Maureen: I love the high speed kitchen counter video, that would be hilarious in our house. My countertops rapidly change between totally cluttered to totally clean.

Our family uses our laundry room entrance into our house, which leads directly into the kitchen. My largest countertop is the dump zone, which may or may not get taken care of by the end of the evening.

Last night, with motivation from this thread, I did get that counter cleaned off.l I have this nice crystal bowl on a pedestal that sits in one corner that is piled with "stuff". Not fruit, not kitchen supplies, just stuff! And this and the counter across the way is where all the mail and schoolwork gets dumped too.

Right now I also have two boxes of baseballs, a dozen scorecards, and a whistle on my kitchen counter.

Ann: Woooooooooo Hoooooooooooo! You have every right to be proud of your clear counters!

Simplicity: The shelving you describe sounds intriguing. I shall look into it.

Yesterday, I removed the set of 4 copper canisters from the counter, in an attempt to clear them further. I shall probably donate them.

This morning, I left several assorted containers "drying" on my counter! I did make a mental note to myself to put them away when I get home! Feel free to hold me accountable and ask me about them tonight!

Left my kitchen counter relatively clear, this morning. smile Actually took the time to put away the containers (and then, had to pull out at least 2 again, when packing lunches! laugh )

I still have more stuff sitting out permanently on the counters than I'd like but I can tolerate that amount of visual clutter, as long as there is an expanse of clear counter space in front of them. And gradually, I might be able to find cabinet space for a few more items.

But I am making it a point now to clear the counters and wipe them off, last thing in the night before I go to bed. Consistency and discipline.

The kitchen counter is one of the areas in my home that looks really good most of the time. I make a point of tidying it up once a day, usually after breakfast. I don't mind a few homeless dishes on the counter or table during the day, but I want to make sure the kitchen is generally organized.

This is what it looks like right now.

The window is to the right of the picture, the door behind me. The red thing on the left hand side is a bread slicer, the small bag contains bread.

The little bowl with the clothespins is used for makeing tea. smile The tea bags tend to fall into the pot and I don't want to go fishing. So I attach a clothespin which keeps the bag on the rim of the teapot. There are tea bag holders, but they don't work well. When I remove the tea bag I put it into the bowl to dry before I toss it, less mould in the garbage. The little round things on the fridge are kiwis that need more ripening. They are not potatoes. smile

And if you think there is more stuff elsewhere, no, there isn't.

Now the window is behind me, the kitchen counter to my right. The table needs a new tablecloth. Until I took the picture I didn't really notice that it's not just worn and shabby by now, but the colour doesn't exactly match the floor either.

Jazzlady: I love your kitchen! It looks so neat and tidy! And not a single upper cabinet in sight! I've way too many things hanging on my walls!
