I need to make a commitment to myself to get stuff done. My oldest is 15 and I'm soooo behind.
1. Work on loading photos onto computer/make back-ups 2. Reorganize photos in boxes 3. Go through and make up several page kits 4. Work on albums at least once each week 5. Attend free crop night each month

My portrait album contains the professional portraits. I put the school portraits in there too. Mine, my siblings, my nieces and nephews. I started putting cousins in there too, but decided to just put theirs with the holiday pictures I get from everyone in the back of my family album.
It's a 12x12 album. I do one 8X10 per page, two 5X7 if they're of the same group. And as many wallet as will fit. I generally do one page per person/couple. It's fun to see how the kids grow each year.
Is that explained well enough?
Turn It Up: The way you're doing it makes perfect sense! I know a lot of people who do theirs that way. Whatever works! I remember you saying your boys liked the digital slideshows and such. that might be a quicker and easier way for you to do their *albums*.
EVeryone is doing great! I'd like to do a portrait album that includes their school and sports pics or any others we had done at a studio. I used to take them to a portrait studio that I had a coupon for and get a bunch of pics for like $15-20. They would try and sell me more but I just got the package I had a coupon for when my kids were younger. The problem with doing the digital slideshows is that I've only had digital photo's for the last 4 yrs or so. All my pics before that are negatives and prints so I have alot to catch up on. Most of my pics are already organized by date so that is done, I just need to get busy doing some scrapping. Has anyone scanned a bunch of old prints into their pc? I'd like to do this but I'm so far away from being ready for that, I think that first I need to scrap all the prints that I have before I do that.

Turn, I've scanned a lot of pics and turned them digital that way; it's been a good way to archive things, and I have more freedom to monkey around with scrapbooks, because I have the archive readily printable. Biggest, what about getting three-ring binders and lots of photo insert sleeves? You can get the photos out of the bins, and use 4x6 cards slipped into the inserts as needed to write event, date, and people notes on them. From a history perspective, it's good to know who, what, when, where, and why about photos, but that doesn't have to translate to endless graphic layout. Keep it easy for yourself! You can also weed through the pictures, and keep just the best ones for the album. It took me a long time to give myself permission to throw away the lousy photos, but I'm much happier now that I do that!

Jenn: I ordered pics online and went to the store & printed out instant pics, both times I had pictures missing! I am a little dissappointed with the pics I ordered. Last time they automatically cropped them and when I said not to I got back pics with white space along both sides. One the plus side I have had a 2 page layout that I haven't been happy with how I arranged the pics. Today in a flash of inspiration I switched some of pics around(they weren't glued down yet) and I love how the layout looks now. I hope everyone is busy scrapping!

I called the company that printed my order and they said there were no other packages being sent, so I told them alot were missing. They credited my account (full amount I paid for all of the pictures) I was happy with that!

ElizabethClark - When you scanned your pics, did you have to do them one at a time? I guess I could start by scanning for a half hour to an hour a week. That would at least start the process, but I have soo many photo's it will take a very long time. Well I guess I don't have to scan every photo but only the best of the best.
I could start by scanning the portrait photo's. Hmm.

I do them one at a time, because I can limit the scanning field to the picture size. I only scan the "best", though. I don't need a record of all my goofs. LOL I actually gave myself permission to TOSS the worst pictures, and that's been really freeing.

Ok that's what I thought. I think there are some scanners/printers that have some kind of auto feed that you can make for 4x6 prints but we don't need another scanner or printer so I can just use the one we currently have.
There are so few pics of me growing up that I have saved every pic I took of my 2 boys and started out just putting them in a photo album using the pocket albums, I think I got 3 on a page. This was back in the negative days so you printed the entire roll of film hoping that most were decent. I have tossed the out of focus pictures. When I started scrapbooking, I only used the best pic or the one that had what I wanted in it so I was much more selective.
That is the plus w/digital in that you only have to print the best ones you plan to scrap etc and you can delete the rest. Although I should be more selective on my deleted digital too as just because you don't have to print it, it does take up space on your pc and eventually that hard drive will become full.
