Routines are sooooo important for anyone. I have routines and during crisis times - they help me to stay focused.

TO kARINA: some of us are naturally organized, others are organized because we have been on this forum a long time, and have learned many "tools".

So, don't let the fact that everyone "looks organized"...to stop you: it is because we have been on the GON forum: and have learned tricks: which we try to use every day of our lives!

I use routines and 1,2,3 mind-or-written-lists to make sure I am thorough and don't get side-tracked. It also helps me stay calm, instead of all my nasty "to do's" hanging out in my mind: and nagging me.

When I first saw the title of this thread a few weeks ago, I thought it was kinda dumb--don't quit reading--I'm not done yet.

Today, my DD2 and I were discussing getting things done around the house. I told here I thought we needed to have a control journal with daily tasks to help me/us get things done so the house isn't a mess and the house can be under control.

I truly do need the ROUTINES in writing so I know what needs to be done. I have a mess of papers on the desk that have to be taken care of on a daily basis.

In about three weeks I will start teaching for 3 different colleges--a total of 8 courses with 6 preps, so I MUST be organized and have the routines down or I won't be able to do anything.

I do have a notebook with pages I designed for my "To Accomplish Today" lists, but I need to write down the actual routine things to get them done, too. I'm going to work on those to put in my notebook, too. That should help me in a number of areas as well as in my teaching.

I can truly say this is NOT a dumb thread and I'm a believer in routines!!!!

We all have routines that we don't even think about that don't even apply to household cleaning or organizing a room or decluttering -- our daily get up, get washed, get dressed routine is just that. But we never think to put it down on paper because it's something we automatically do. So, if we put routines down on paper just what it is we need to do, whether it's the household cleaning or whatever, make a commitment to follow that list, before we know it it becomes second nature to us. Change is always scary but once we jump into something new and stick with it, after a while we'll wonder what we were so scared about in the first place. Take it from one who knows! :o)

Keep us posted on how you are making out!

Tweety I don't recall seeing a forum for magic minimums. I think it may be from another organizing site.

It may not have been a forum. I'm fairly certain I just got it from here this year although it my have been an old message. I wish I could remember who wrote it. It was called her magic minimums to do a quick clean and it helped me to get back to feeling like going further. I have had a rather trying year, so when I became overwhelmed It really helped.
Thanks all

are you talking about setting your timer for just 15 min. work at a time and doing 1 load of laundry/day, keeping the dw run and unloaded and making the bed. eliminating the evidence and pick up and put away?

Tweety,

Hi. I searched back a year and only a few threads come up with minimum in the message that is relevent to what you are looking for. It may have been older.?

Were you interested in what others have as their minimums as a starting place to figure out your own.? If so, I'm sure a new thread could be started, that is if it hasn't been already, I haven't checked all the new posts for today yet.

What Mary posted is a common list of minimums for many households. I would just add sort/toss mail daily.

Hope that helps. - Dawn
