Dirty Little Secrets When I get a gift card to a store or restaurant, here’s what I do to ensure I don’t forget I have it Here’s the secret: For gift cards for the grocery store and other retail stores I “physically” visit, because I usually pay with a credit card, I keep gift cards in my wallet, in the same slot as my my credit card, but in FRONT of it. If you use your debit card, put your gift cards in that slot in front of that card. If you use cash, put your gift cards in the same section as the money. For gift cards I plan to use online, I have a file folder, with a manila envelope inside, that holds all the gift cards I receive as gifts. This folder is kept in my filing cabinet in a file called Gift Cards. The cards are in the envelope to ensure they don’t slip out of the file folder. I also have a list of gift cards and their denominations listed in an Excel file on my computer. Before I shop online, I check my list first to determine if I have a gift card to pay for it.
