____ May 1
Go on a negative energy scavenger hunt
around your home. Walk through your house
and make note of the negative things that you
have in your home. Get rid of those things and
make your home a positive energy place.
____ May 2
Is your kitchen where you dump everything
when you get home from work? Use a kitchen
drawer as your landing pad. Empty the drawer
and use it to hold everything you usually dump
on a counter top; keys, sunglasses, change,
etc. This will cut down on the visual clutter and
give you one place to go for those items that
could be buried.
____ May 3
When preparing to work a task, ask if this task
brings you closer to your goals for your home.
If the answer is yes, perform the task yourself.
If the answer is no, delegate or drop the task
____ May 4
Go on a treasure hunt in your home. A positive
is always more effective in getting organized
than a negative. When you find treasures,
highlight them, treasure them. Non-treasures
should be given away or discarded.
____ May 5
Keep an inventory! Do you just know you
bought something at the warehouse store, but
can't find it? Use a dry erase board and store
items in the same space every time you buy.
Keep your inventory up to date and you should
never run out or over-stock again.
____ May 6
Label, label label! Clear plastic containers are
great for storage, but even they are limited in
affording us a quick view of contents. Use an
index card with a list of the items stored in the
container. Just slip it down inside the box so
you can read the list easily.
____ May 7
Do you have daily items that sometimes get
missed because you got too busy, or just plain
forgot? Set up a daily action file and use it for
reminders, bills, invitations, etc. This can be as
simple as a piece of paper with the action and
the due date. You will be more on top of making
appointments and you’ll avoid late fees for bills
____ May 8
Shoe Parking! Many families take shoes off at
the door to avoid tracking outside dirt into the
house and onto carpets. A bench with a handy
shoe rack makes it easy for family and guests
to stop and remove shoes before going further
into the house. It helps to have a sign to let
infrequent visitors know about the family shoe
____ May 9
Create a daily schedule. By creating a
schedule you can reduce the amount of
needless energy expended trying to keep up
with everything all at once. This relieves
pressure, motivates you to get tasks done, and
it gets your house into good order. Try a
schedule, adjusting as necessary to make it
work for you, not you working for the schedule.
____ May 10
Have the right tools for the job. There isn't any
doubt, the right tools make the job easier and
you more efficient. Before you get started
cleaning, assemble a "tool bucket" to carry
around with you. They should include rubber
gloves, microfiber cloths, non-toxic cleaners
and dusting cloths.

the office? Check out my books, Finally Organized, Finally

____ May 11
Get rid of unused items. It might be hard to do,
but getting rid of unused items frees up your
time because you aren't a slave to your
possessions. All items require maintenance
and care….imagine spending all of your time
taking care of needless, unused items! Donate
them to free up your space and your time.
____ May 12
Create a Checklist! This is a great way to help
you stay on task and also gives you a sense of
accomplishment as you go. It gives you
motivation to keep going as you check items off
as completed and it gets things done.
____ May 13
HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY! Treat Mom to a day
off from all chores. Let her know just how
special she is to you and just how much you
appreciate all the little things she does for you.
____ May 14
Try to Make It Fun! Put on music, challenge the
family, open the windows wide and let that
fresh air invigorate and motivate you to move!
Reward yourself when you're finished.
____ May 15
Are you having guests come in during the
summer? Before they arrive, set up your guest
room to make them feel special. Think of things
that make you feel special and cared for and try
to recreate that for your guests.
Keeping on top of everything going on in your life is easy,
when you have the Get Organized Now!™ Easy Organizer.
Now available in both print and digital PDF format.
____ May 16
Plan out your meals as much as possible
ahead of time. It is so much easier to save
money and efforts. The last thing we want to
do after a long day at work is to figure out
what to serve for meals. So spend some time
planning out meals for at least 2 weeks and
shop for 1 week's worth of meals.
____ May 17
Open that mail right over the recycle bin.
Handling mail sometimes leads to stacks here
and stacks there. So when you bring it into the
house, sort it immediately. Shred what has any
personal information on it, like your name or
address, recycle the rest of the junk mail, and
put your bills and important mail in your tickler
____ May 18
Play a Beat The Clock Game with the kids.
Kids love games and a competition to beat the
clock is right up their alley. Set a timer for
about two minutes and challenge your kids to
see how fast they can get things picked up and
put away in that time. You'll be amazed at how
fast and furious they'll work to beat the clock.
____ May 19
Reward Yourself! We've said it often, but not
often enough. We do deserve a treat now and
then and we rarely afford ourselves the luxury.
So reward your hard work with a treat that
means something to you.
____ May 20
Do you have an assortment of out of control
garden tools and aren't sure how to store
them? Use an old cup rack on a fence, or the
wall of your garage to hang tools. Not only are
they out of the way, but they will last longer for
you and you'll be able to find what you need,
when you need it.
____ May 21
Do you find that your out of season items are
stuffed here, there and everywhere?
Designate and organize an area in your
garage where you can place cushions, sports
gear and any other seasonal stuff.
____ May 22
With warm weather likely to stick around, take
advantage of the longer days and warmer
temps to take care of outside home
____ May 23
Take time to plan blocks of time for organizing
both at home and at the office. Just fifteen to
thirty minutes of baby steps will help you get
things done without being overwhelming.
____ May 24
Organizing the car is something we let slide
while we take care of our homes and families.
Containerize loose items, like your re-usable
shopping bags, emergency supplies, window
washer fluid, etc. There is less likelihood of
things falling out when a door is opened, or
getting in the way of packing in groceries, etc.
____ May 25
Holiday weekend plans? Now is the last
chance to finalize all your plans. Make sure
that you have all the supplies you need for
whatever your weekend holds.
____ May 26
Ever go to the store and come home realizing
you forgot some of what you really needed?
Keep a magnetic notepad and pencil on the
front of your fridge and list things there as you
need them. Let the family know that if it isn't on
the list, they stand a good chance of not
getting what they need. It's a good habit for
everyone to be in.
____ May 27
Organize your business cards. Even in this
day and age of electronic everything, people
still hand out business cards. How to organize
them? You can pick up a business card holder
that has individual slots for the cards. They
come in a range of sizes from wallet to small
notebook. This keeps them in one place and
handy when you need one.

____ May 28
Enjoy the holiday with your family. Go on a
picnic, watch a parade, watch fireworks. Many
communities still host Memorial Day
celebrations in the park, Take in one with the
____ May 29
Install a good spyware program on your
computer to put a stop to programs that track
your computer activities. These can sneak in
when you download programs. Knowing where
your programs are coming from can prevent a
lot of these from taking up residence on your
____ May 30
Don't accept software downloads from
unconfirmed sources. Many come with
embedded viruses and can wreak havoc on
your computer. Be very careful about opening
emails attachments from people you don't
know. Protect yourself with a good anti-virus
____ May 31
Greeting card files are so helpful in keeping us
current with greeting cards. Many people still
enjoy sending paper cards in the mail, and
many enjoy receiving them. Set up a file with
monthly dividers and keep cards for the
occasions you want to acknowledge with a
