February, 2008

rule

____ Feb 1 It is not too early to start planning your summer vacation. Check your calendar, pick out a few dates and begin researching hotels, rental cars, etc. A multitude of useful information, as well as bargains, can be found online at such sites as Expedia and Travelocity.

____ Feb 2 February is one of the coldest months of the year so it is easy to want to skip your morning run or exercise routine. However, you can have a comfortable and warm workout. All you have to do is make sure to dress appropriate. Lots of layers along with a hat and gloves is the key.

____ Feb 3 Today is Super Bowl Sunday. Getting together with friends and family to watch the game and participate in food and festivities is a fun way to spend the day.

____ Feb 4 Do you have the winter blues? Feel better and get yourself in the mood for spring and summer by renting a fun summertime movie like National Lampoons Family Vacation or Grease.

____ Feb 5 Start taking out your spring coats and other clothing in preparation for spring. Check to see if anything needs to be repaired and/or cleaned. Make a note of any outerwear you need to buy for the new season.

____ Feb 6 Is there a task or several tasks that you have been procrastinating on for some time? Today is the day to get one or more of those tasks off the shelf and completed. You will feel so much better knowing the job is finally finished.

____ Feb 7 Gather up all of your tax documents and get them organized for your tax preparer.

____ Feb 8 Take a few minutes to clean out your email inbox. This is usually a task that is put off for another time, but it is best to regularly purge email so it does not become such a big job in the future.

____ Feb 9 February is American Heart Month. Cardiovascular disease is our nation’s number one killer. This is a good time to become more aware of your heart and heart health. Read a book on heart healthy eating or take a class at a local hospital or clinic.

____ Feb 10 Join others in going green and plant a tree. The average person emits about 94 pounds of carbon dioxide each day. It takes four trees, which act as natural air filters, to offset the carbon dioxide each person generates in a month.

____ Feb 11 Call a time-out for yourself. Find at least five minutes to get into a relaxed state every day. Relaxation is proven to help lower stress hormones, heart rate and blood pressure.

____ Feb 12 Time to check your medical records and start scheduling annual appointments for such things as dental cleanings, mammograms, eye exams, etc.

____ Feb 13 Organize all of the pictures you took over the holidays. Put them online, plan a scrapbook or store in a photo binder or box.

____ Feb 14 Happy Valentine’s Day! This is the perfect time to do something special with your valentine.

____ Feb 15 The winter season plays havoc on your skin making it dry and flaky. Make sure you don't run out of moisturizer and lip balm. Purchase back-up if you are getting low.

____ Feb 16 Plan to spend this weekend as a family and do something together. Go out for dinner, play a game, or just hang out, watch a movie and talk.

____ Feb 17 Replace your furnace filter. With winter’s high energy bills, make sure you are not neglecting your furnace’s filter. Clean air filters are as essential on your furnace as they are on your car. They can filter out pollen and dust and need to be cleaned or replaced as recommended by the furnace manufacturer. For maximum efficiency, they should be replaced every three months.

____ Feb 18 Today is President’s Day in the US. It is a day to honor all of those who have served this country as our President. It is also a time to become familiar with the candidates running for president in this election year.

____ Feb 19 Send an e-card or letter or pick up the phone and call a friend or relative you have not talked to in quite some time and catch up.

____ Feb 20 Spring is only a month away! Start making a list of the things you want to accomplish.

____ Feb 21 Does your job require you to sit for any length of time? Is a computer a big part of your job? Pay attention to your body and rest when needed. Build in regular breaks to your day. Make sure your workstation is ergonomic. Make it a point to include a variety of motion in your day to avoid repetitive strain injury.

____ Feb 22 Spring rains are not far away. Therefore, this is a good time to have your home’s sump pump inspected. If the pump is not working, your basement can flood.

____ Feb 23 Get rid of old books and magazines that are piling up on the table, nightstand or other places throughout your home. Consider donating them to the library, hospitals, doctor or dental offices or nursing homes. Organize the books and magazines you wish to keep on shelves or in magazine files.

____ Feb 24 If you haven't done something spontaneous lately, today's the perfect day to go wild!

____ Feb 25 Make sure all your gardening tools have been cleaned, sharpened and are ready to go.

____ Feb 26 Go through your cupboards and replace old baking supplies. Over time moisture accumulates in opened packages of baking soda and powder. It can impede the results of your baking. Throw out flour once a year if you don't use it often.

____ Feb 27 How are you doing on your New Year’s resolutions? Do your goals need to be adjusted or changed? Or do you need to start over from scratch and make some new goals for the remainder of the year? This is a good time to re-adjust or keep rolling toward your goals.

____ Feb 28 Clean out your handbag and consider buying a new one for spring if last year's isn't cutting it anymore.

____ Feb 29 An extra day in February means it is Leap Year! Leap year comes around about every four years and is needed so that the calendar remains in alignment with the earth’s motion around the sun. Did you know that Julius Caesar was behind the origin of leap year in 45 BC?
