Pink Pineapple Perspectives on Organizing
What do you think of when you see the color pink? Baby girl clothes,
perhaps? Cotton candy? Maybe pink carnations, Pink Pearl erasers, the Pink
Panther, pink lemonade, strawberry ice cream, pink grapefruit, or pink
Now there's a new pink in town...the pink pineapple.
Yes, Del Monte has recently engineered, and the USDA has approved, a pink
pineapple that includes lycopene... the same antioxidant compound that gives
tomatoes their red color and may have a role in preventing cancer.
I haven't seen one in person yet, but I'm betting it will be showing up in my
supermarket one of these days. Maybe it has already made it to yours?
I have a pretty good feeling it will sell...because it's different, new, pretty,
When it comes to getting and staying organized, sometimes it helps to let go
of the 'same old-same old' and try something different, new, pretty, and/or
Different: Let's say you're always running late for your appointments. If
you don't do something to change that, chances are, you'll be late for every
appointment you have. But if you use a different system like loosening up your
schedule a bit so it's not so hectic, making use of an alarm on your phone
alerting you when it's time to leave, and/or adding more padding-time in between
your TO DOs and appointments, you now have the opportunity to be on time, and
maybe even early for future appointments.
New: Maybe you've been using a sewing machine that's been on the brink of
collapse for years. Perhaps your cell phone's battery doesn't last nearly as
long as it used to. Have your knives become so dull that it's becoming downright
dangerous to cut veggies for dinner. Every now and then, 'bite the bullet' and
trade in something old for something new, especially if that new item is going
to help you be more productive, efficient, or otherwise benefit you in some way.
Pretty: Some people can organize their belongings into cardboard boxes or
pre-used file folders and be perfectly happy doing so...and that's great. Others
become and stay more organized when they are using organizing items and tools
that they find pretty...perhaps unique woven baskets, fancy notebooks, or even
pink file folders. If you consider 'visual appeal' to be a big factor in your
life, opting for 'pretty' when it comes to organizing can actually help you be
better organized...because you'll 'want' to utilize it more.
Unexpected: Just because pineapples are normally yellow, apparently
doesn't mean they can't be pink. In the same sense, just because some things are
meant for one purpose, doesn't mean they can't be used for another...like ice
cube trays for sorting earrings, shower hooks for hanging purses in your bedroom
closet, old ladders upcycled into book cases, fruit baskets for organizing hair
accessories, and using daily planners for inspirational journaling rather than
for keeping appointments. Seek out the unexpected...it may be a wonderful way to
spark your creativity and keep you inspired.
Whether it's yellow or pink, the pineapple is recognized as a traditional
expression of 'welcome.' Use today's pineapple perspectives as mental reminders
of welcoming 'different, new, pretty, and/or unexpected' into your life...and
seek to always find new possibilities that can make life sweeter!
