For many families, the process of waking up, getting dressed, and preparing for each day is hectic. Despite your best efforts, you may habitually struggle to arrive at work, school, or other activities on time because of morning chaos. To make matters worse, a stressful morning can easily set a negative tone for the rest of the day. By creating a chaos-free morning, you can not only reduce stress and calm commotion, but you will also improve your attitude and performance for the rest of the day as well. The key to calming morning chaos for yourself and your family begins by establishing groundwork the previous evening. 1) Check your schedule every evening to see what is on your agenda for the next day. Gather any items you will need for tomorrow’s events and activities. By knowing what lies ahead, you can be confident and prepared for everything you have scheduled the next day. 2) Organize yourself and your family the night before. Pack backpacks and lunch boxes. Ensure that all permission slips are signed and paperwork is filled out. Make yourself a ‘to do’ list for items you need to accomplish tomorrow. 3) Pre-dress for success. Take a moment to check tomorrow’s weather forecast and choose appropriate clothing the night before. Setting out outfits for all family members, especially the littlest ones, will eliminate time spent selecting them in the morning. Be sure to include hair accessories, undergarments, matched socks, and shoes. Those little decisions can quickly eat up minutes of your time. 4) Designate a place for keys, purses or backpacks, and coats near the door and ensure they are all accounted for before you go to bed each evening. Select a table or bookshelf nearby and allocate space for additional items that you or other family members will need when you head out the door tomorrow. Nothing ruins a perfect morning faster than a 10 minute scavenger hunt for car keys. 5) Get enough sleep. You need your 8 hours--minimum! Lack of sleep will almost definitely leave you dragging and nothing encourages morning chaos more than being slow- moving and lethargic. Make sure everyone in your family is able to get a good night’s rest and you will be one step closer to a happy, productive, chaos-free morning. Now that your schedule has been checked, necessities are prepared and placed in a convenient location, clothing is set out, and you've had 8+ hours of rest, there are several steps you can take every morning to reduce chaos as well. ====================================================== Finally Organized, Finally Free -- for the HOME by Maria Gracia * HOT PRODUCT! Make 2010 your year to get organized! ====================================================== 6) Set your alarm clock to give you 15 extra minutes every morning. The extra time will allow you to remain on schedule even if there are unexpected snags in your morning routine. Should your morning go smoothly, you can use that extra time to read a book, meditate, or find another way to relax. 7) Establish a routine. Make a list of everything that needs to be done each morning and determine what order those things will occur. Knowing whether a shower comes before breakfast or vice versa will help you anticipate what the next step is, eliminating confusion and wasted time. As you become used to this established routine, it will become like clockwork and possibly create free time where you didn't know it existed. 8) Give children a list of things ‘to do’ each morning. Making their own beds, picking up laundry, and other age appropriate chores can make your job easier and keep the children busy while you attend to your own responsibilities. It will also reduce the amount of housework required of you. Dry-erase check lists or star sticker charts can help children become self-motivated and more willing to help. 9) Delegate responsibility. Assign everyday responsibilities such as cooking breakfast, dressing small children, and starting the coffee maker to capable family members. Everybody will know what is expected of them and even responsibilities that are often overlooked or delayed will not be forgotten until the very last minute. 10) Don't be afraid of convenience foods. Especially on weekday mornings. Foods such as cereal and frozen waffles can save a vast amount of time. Save the fancy-schmancy gourmet breakfast for weekends when time is not so critical. For true time-saving enthusiasts, set the breakfast table before you go to bed! 11) Give yourself time to tidy up. Nobody wants to return home to a messy house. Giving yourself several minutes each morning to tidy up will allow you to relax and enjoy your home once you return. Recurrent frenzied mornings will quickly become a thing of the past when you use these simple suggestions to get organized. With minimal effort, you can quickly develop evening habits and morning routines for your family that will make the most out of your limited time in the morning. Reducing confusion and establishing a comfortable, yet flexible schedule will calm morning chaos and set the tone for a positive, productive day for your entire family. ====================================================== Finally Organized, Finally Free -- for the OFFICE * HOT PRODUCT! There's no doubt that the world hasn't caught on to this concept yet. There's more paper than ever... bank statements, insurance paperwork, schedules, school-related reports, medical records, warranties-- and of course all the fun paper too, like memorabilia, articles, hobby-related stuff and more. This is not to mention all the email messages and computer documents that get printed and copied each day--even more paper! These papers start small, quickly turn into piles, and then grow into mountains. Sometimes, these mountains of paper get so high, that the thought of tackling them is just too overwhelming-- especially when you don't have a good filing system in place or much time to put one together. If you're sick and tired of the piles of paper taking over your home and your life and you just don't know where to start, I have a solution for you. The good news is, this solution will take no time at all, and the result will be stunning--a filing system that will allow you to dismantle those mountains and find whatever you're looking for in seconds. Visit: http://www.getorganizednow.com/filing.html P.S. I guarantee you'll be able to get all your paper organized, in an efficient, easy-as-pie to set up filing system that will be the envy of all your friends. ====================================================== An Organizing Tip From One of Our Readers ====================================================== I lack space in my workshop, so I fasten glass jam jar lids to the underside of the shelves. I have a list of what I want to accomplish in that amount of time. If I finish all items on the list before my time is up, I do whatever I want for the remainder of the time. But, when something really good comes along--something that I feel supplements my books and products beautifully, I'd feel I was doing you a disservice not to tell you about it. Mimi Tanner, the author of 'Declutter Fast' is actually a reformed pack rat. That's right...she has struggled with mountains of clutter for years. But today, she is free. She has discovered the joys of order and organization. She focuses on getting rid of clutter, and she does a wonderful job at it. Mimi makes decluttering your house both quick and pain free. I'm inspired by her excellent methods. I'm sure you will be too. I just cleaned out my son's bookcase and am donating two boxes (about 100 children's books) to my niece and nephews for their children. Very happy to clean off the shelves, but even happier to share the joy of reading with others. --Kathy Russell, Canton, Michigan I have just spent the weekend spring cleaning and decluttering my apartment, it feels great! Somehow I omitted de-cluttering my bookshelf, but did glance at it with extreme guilt when I was out of the door with my black bags filled with clothing, shoes, bags and toys I went to donate during my lunch break today (to a local children's home). You have given me a push to donate a few to a local school that has about as many books as I do. What a great way to feel good, not only from doing a good deed, but there is nothing like being able to open a cupboard and not be hit by an avalanche. I found so many things I thought I had lost! Oh, yes, another great idea I had whilst cleaning out my clothes was to create a 'shopping bag.' This was for everything I was unsure about. Basically I am a shopaholic and love the thrill of buying things and rummaging through piles of clothing, so now, before I hit the shops again I will go shopping in my own little store in a bag! Let's be honest here, unless our trainers have a huge hole in them, or we have gained 30kgs, going shopping is really just an activity, not a necessity. This is a great way to save money for people like myself! It is like a friend clothing swap session, but only between you and yourself. Thank you so much for your site it really is amazing! --Belinda Berry, 23 year old, single female, shop-a-holic, South Africa What a great challenge! I have created a 'to read' shelf where all of the unread books now reside, waiting for me. I am no longer searching for the perfect book on a cold or rainy afternoon! Books that I no longer want or need have been donated to a school library, the public library or the local symphony's annual book sale. --Name Withheld Ha!!! For once I am finally ahead of a challenge! Two weeks ago I donated 85 books to a local, non-profit thrift store. In addition, about 6 months ago, I began listing books on Amazon for sale. Both methods work--one gave me a tax write-off, one gave me extra cash--and they both cleared books out of my house! --Name Withheld Week of January 9: Put all traces of the holiday season away. Our Christmas decor is out of site! We had the foresight to take down outside trimmings before the cold and snow hit us. Then, setting a large folding table up in the living room, we gathered our many water globes, stuffed animals, village scenes, etc. and packed them in boxes. After labeling the boxes, we put them in our spare room. It took a couple of days to get them up into the closet storage space--ready for next season. Seniors don't move very fast, but we get the job done. Thanks for your many ideas and guidance. --Helen ====================================================== Finally...You Can Shed Unwanted Pounds Without Crazy Exercising or Counting Calories... Even if You Love Snacks and Dessert ====================================================== We're quickly approaching swimsuit season...why not begin looking and feeling your best right now? My friend Cate and her husband came up with a simple, workable plan that she and her husband used to shed unwanted pounds without starving or dieting. Cate dropped two dress sizes. Her husband dropped a bunch of pounds too. They did this with three children and full schedules of games and dance classes and all that fun stuff. Her program is called 'Real People Don't Diet' and it's great. Cate is a real person who found a way for a real family to eat and lose, while not grossing out the kids! As she says, 'All you'll need to do is take simple math, apply it to your eating habits and keep on living your life.' That's so do-able. So, if you'd like to stop dieting and start eating, I highly encourage you to check out 'Real People Don't Diet' right now.
